3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 peteinSD (958) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 21, 2011Bottle kindly sent from Styles - thanks man! Muddy, raisin-brown in the glass with no head and initially healthy carbonation fading to a slow ebb of bubbles. Aroma is big, English barley wine with caramel, raisin/date, cherry, caramel, smoke, toffee, and sherry. Light oxidization with a heavy raisin, cherry, caramel flavor and a smooth slight alcohol finish. Big, thick, and enjoyable beer.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 FROTHINGSLOSH (3989) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 6, 2013
Sampled from a 12 oz green bottle this beer poured almost black with a trace very dark brown head that left no lacing. The aroma was chocolate, malted milk, vanilla, sour fruits, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce and sweatsocks. The flavor was cola, cherry, vanilla, soy sauce, a short tart spike in the middle followed by lingering coco, cherry, soy sauce and vanilla. Moderately full bodied. Very nice and wonderfully rich and complex.

Pours thick syrupy brown with almost no head. Aroma of burnt toffee, raisins, caramel malt, sweet booze. Taste is dark fruit syrup, burnt sugar, molasses, prunes, brown sugar and boozy oak. Hides the alcohol pretty well but it’s also pretty sweet. Not bad.

Great beer.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 trumpetskid (95) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 18, 2013
This is the sour version. It is still called 3 guy off the scale and I didn’t see a separate entry, so I’m leaving the review here.
Pours a rusty red. No head. No carbonation. Aroma, vanilla, chocolate, sour cherry, caramel. This is a great smelling beer. Taste- the sourness comes through a little more in the taste, but it’s still a pretty subtle tartness. It tastes like a chocolate caramel tart cherry dessert. This is really good.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 NobleSquirrel (3313) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 7, 2013
Bottle shared by Drew, thanks! Pours a deep copper, mostly clear. Nose is lightly oxidized, richly malty and sweet in the nose. Sherry and malt. Clean and has held up well. On tasting, bit bitterness, clean alcohol. Richly malty and a nice sweetness. Clean and dry finish. Pretty damn fine stuff.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheAlum (4289) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - FEB 1, 2013
12 oz bottle shared by drewbeerme. Thanks, Drew! Pours a nice deeper amber pour, almost into the brownish range. A bit of glow on the edges with a deeper darker body, good haze. Frothy head dies to a film, laces small. Aromas offer sweeter sticky malts, toffee and biscuits, caramel and dough. Touches of red fruit, dried fruit, and gentle heat on the nose. Some raisin, bit of cocoa and dryness but still pretty sticky. Initial is similar, bigger body and a bit of heat off the bat. Sticky and carmelized malts, dough and caramel. Some red fruit, dried fruit, and gentle spiciness on the palate. Kiss of cocoa, heat, dryness from the alcohol as we move back. Warm and inviting as we get into it, it’s pretty impressive with the age on this. Gentle pit fruit elements, sweet malts. Kinda shakes itself out to something more impressive.
