4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
I wish they’d make this again! Pours dark amber and cloudy, sherry notes and complex full flavored yet smooth. Medium hoppy, well masked alcohol.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle, aged about a year. Was very excited to acquire this through trade (I believe) with General66. I figured a year would be enough to make it not hot, but I was wrong. Pours a beautiful reddish brown color with the typical DH little head that dies quickly. Smells of a ton of caramel, some yeast, a little bit of dried fruit, and A LOT of alcohol. Scared me a bit with how much alcohol was on the smell. The taste however was a little more tame, but still not for the timid. Goes down fairly smoothly, with a nice caramel and vanilla aftertaste. Overall a very nice barley wine, but has too much heat. Would be interesting to age for about 3-4 years, then try again.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle thanks to hopdog. Dark amber body. Aroma and flavor were very sweet of brown sugar and dark dried fruits. Perhaps it needs to age but it seemed way too hot for me. Finish had a very whiskey-like feel to it... way too harsh. It could have potential if it hid the alcohol better.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle that’s freaking impossible to open. Thanks Gurst! Pours a red-tinted amber with good carbonation and a thin lacing of a head. Aroma is sweet but not cloying, with loads of dark fruit, caramel, berries, and toffee. Taste is smooth and full, with plums, figs, cherries, caramel, and molasses dominating. For a 15% ABV, there’s hardly any bite to speak of as well. A delicious winter warmer.

Huge and hard to drink until you've had enough of it to soften all the riot of flavor. It made for a grand evening, though! Thanks, Michael!

3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
pours hazy dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is heavly malty of cookies, hay, cereal, toasted malts and carmel. Flavor starts heavy sweet, and malty of dark fruit, carmel, figs and alcohol, finish is much the same a bit less sweet but hot alcohol.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Pours a deep ruby color with a thin slightly off white head. Aroma is sweet with malt notes, chocolate, and alcohol. This smells great! Flavor is strong with caramel, chocolate, and molassas. Strong alchohol that is aggressive, but not overpowering. Full syrup like body. This is truely amazing.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Excellent brew. Hard to tell from the bottle who brews it. The taste is of nice sweet malt/cherries. The hops are nice and balancing, but not overwhelming.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap at darkhorse... upon talking to the locals who have had this beer for years they said it was too bitter, here is my thought... beautiful dark charcoal color, nice head, sweet malts with hints of toffee and maybe a slight malt place on the palate, maybe a bit biter but very enjoyable. highly recomended.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Beer Tasting at Heritage Liquor(Maplewood, MN) - Pours a deep mahogany with nose of chocolate-covered plumb and raisin. A hint of musty red wine quickly dissipates. Comes across the palate as smoky raisin and red wine-infused chocolate, Maple syrup flavors and texture are coming to the forefront as the beer warms. Thick, lingering film left on the palate after every sip. Amazing in taste and complexity.
