Bottle thanks to styles! Pour was a deep, sparkly ruby with a ring and a spattering of off-white head. Huge aroma with dark fruits and raspberries, grassy hoppage and caramel... but the big, mean alcohol lurking in there almost washed the rest of the nose away. First impression on the tastebuds was tart raspberries and bright alcohol. Caramel and dark fruity sweetness follow, along with some herbal/grassy hoppage. The alcohol never lets you forget that itís there. Finish lasted a while, with dark berries and booze... mild herbal bitterness. Tart and bitter from the fruit and alcohol on the palate, yet there was enough malt presence to balance things out and provide a nice distribution of flavors. Warming and intoxicating going down. Good young... looking forward to seeing if greatness ensues with age!

A Mes rate. Bottle at Borefts 10am day after hotel tasting.
Excellent amber colour with a really good beige head. Slightly cheesey but all round an excellent barley wine. More sugary than I would normally like but there is no denying itís very tasty. Excellent spicy notes, plenty of chewy caramel malt and a good warming feel all the way through. Good stuff.

2004 vintage courtesy of footbalm. Bomber pours clear copper with thin head. The aroma is rich creamy and yummy. I get creamy candy caramel, some dark fruity esters, some alcohol and a bit of vanilla. Amazing and interesting. The taste is the same as the aroma with chewy sticky maltiness, a bit of pine flavor non hop bitterness, caramel goodness and a nice warming sensation. This brew has aged greacefully. Wonderful.

Bottle shared by Drew, thanks. Pours a clear deep amber with a gray head that starts and remains at the edges. Aroma has a strong caramel note with sweet grains and a hint of grass. Flavor has a combination of sweet and earthy grains with a hint of earthy grassiness.

Shared by bhensonb. Pours dark brown with a thin beige head and a sharp malt aroma. The flavor is raisins and caramel, and strangely hoppy too with a bit of pine and a warming alcohol finish. Complex and delicious.

Very aromatic, hops and malt. More alcohol than its needed is mixed with rich malty body . Very full and big . Only at the end shows its better qualities, like nice roasted malt that is overpowered with alcohol.

Pours brown with a red hue and a thin tan head. Smells of dark fruit, spicy, some resiny hints a touch of pepper. Tastes of dark fruit, sweet malt, nicely balanced out by some underlying bitterness. Enjoyable.

12oz bottle, shared by alexsdad06. Hazy amber - brown color. Thin off-white head. Dots of lace. Big caramel and raisin in the nose, light sherry. Bigger body. Nice smoooth, more creamy texture. Lighter carbonation. Surprisingly easy to drink for 15%. Just a light warmth in the finish. Iíve had 12% beers that tasted much boozier. Nice moderate bitter taste, light sweet. Some bigger earthy hop, light graininess. Caramel. Very good barleywine.

12 oz. bottle, sent from St. Fun (thanks a lot, Josh), pours a deep dark amber / mahogany with a small beige head. Strong nose brings out raisins, caramel and sherry upfront, with secondary notes of chocolate, cherry and booze. Flavour is rich and round, very malt-heavy, with loads of caramel, dark fruit (raisins and plum), some sherry-like liqueur, and just the perfect amount of sweetness. Now this is complex - so many layers of flavour, with a big, sticky, rich mouthfeel. The 15% alcohol is exceptionally well-worked in, with no burn or heat, just a warming effect. Barley wines usually fail to impress me much these days, but this is certainly an exceptional. Absolutely wonderful stuff.

Bottle: Burnt caramel in color, moderate light beige foamy head, fairly nice lacing. † Strong alcohol presense on the nose. † Candied applies, sugared orange peel, chocolate covered rum balls, and dark pitted fruit also make up the aroma. † Malty and bready up front, quite warming too, alcohol is noticeable but manageable. † Candied fruit on the backside, somewhat sweet, with a citric bitterness that is fairly subtle. † Touch of vanilla, figs, and dates on the finish. † Big in body, mouthfeel seems fairly moderate tho. † A bit of a twang after the finish, somewhat like raw alcohol. † Good stuff, but maybe a bit too foward on the alcohol. † While not bitter or harsh, a year or two will do this one some good me thinks. † A big thanks goes out to Schroppfy, Jah Noth, and Santa Clark for sending me this stuff!!! † I am really glad I ended up with multples of this one because due to unforseen circumstances I might not have had the opportunity to rate this one.
