3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very aromatic, hops and malt. More alcohol than its needed is mixed with rich malty body . Very full and big . Only at the end shows its better qualities, like nice roasted malt that is overpowered with alcohol.

Pours brown with a red hue and a thin tan head. Smells of dark fruit, spicy, some resiny hints a touch of pepper. Tastes of dark fruit, sweet malt, nicely balanced out by some underlying bitterness. Enjoyable.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle thanks to Styles. Pours reddish brown. Nose and taste of booze, dark fruits, molasses and brown sugar. Alcohol is really strong on the palate initially, but gives way to strong notes of raisin and prune in the finish.

2004 vintage courtesy of footbalm. Bomber pours clear copper with thin head. The aroma is rich creamy and yummy. I get creamy candy caramel, some dark fruity esters, some alcohol and a bit of vanilla. Amazing and interesting. The taste is the same as the aroma with chewy sticky maltiness, a bit of pine flavor non hop bitterness, caramel goodness and a nice warming sensation. This brew has aged greacefully. Wonderful.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy, his bottle. Poured slightly hazy ruby-amber with a decent creamy-rocky off-white head. Mild aroma of woody yeasty malt, alcohol, leafy hops and a touch of soap, although the alcohol and wood intensified some on warming. Taste followed the nose, but much more hop (resiny hop) character, the alcohol is stronger too, but 12%? - anyway, it all builds to a bitter, alcoholic finish - very nice, probably the softest mouthfeel of any barleywine Iíve tried, creamy, smooth, lightly astringent, alcoholic and of medium body and complexity. Initially I was casting aspersions on this one, and yes itís soft, but let it build slowly and thereís a solid BW here.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
In short: A surprisingly easy to drink very big beer of some kind
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed when over 1 year of age (2 years?). Bottle sent to me by dmschefke. Thanks a lot Dave.
The look: Cloudy purple body topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: Strong nose of figs, dates, toffee. Smells a bit like a bit like a cranked up dark English Strong Ale. Taste is full of red liquorice, barley candy, sherry, raisins, toffee, cherry tree, tobacco, dark fruits, bitter orange peels, caramel. Whatís really amazing about this one is that it did not feel very sweet or very boozy at all. Probably one of the less boozy (maybe THE less boozy) 12%+ beer Iíve ever had. I have a hard time to believe this is 15%. I had a buzz after my bottle so maybe it is indeed 15%. Wow, unreal. Body is not quite as big as I love from a big beer. I donít understand why they donít brew that more often or why they donít put an ďsĒ after Guy.

12-oz bottle, waxed. Thanks, Pantanap! Or Sprinkle. Think it was Pantanap. Pours a dark brown with thick, moussy tan gloop on top. Vinous, extracty processed malt nose. Kinda smells like DME. Boozy twang a-hoppiní and a-boppiní right from the getty on the nose. Syrupy, sticky body. Vodka-spiked cookie dough mid-palate. Long sticky DME finish.

Sour version. Completely flat. Probably a batch gone wrong at the brewery. It is acetoney. Soy sauce mixes with nail polish. Not very sour or good. Luckily i didnít buy the bottle, I would be pissed if I did.

Shared by bhensonb. Pours dark brown with a thin beige head and a sharp malt aroma. The flavor is raisins and caramel, and strangely hoppy too with a bit of pine and a warming alcohol finish. Complex and delicious.
