4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
This roaming, free raspberry candy spirit, a fat specter with a sceptre of chocolate, looms through the thick hoppy fog...His ghoulish sweet whispers of decadence resound louder and louder, as grapefruity virtuosi of the affable kind lick the inner mind and the upper palate...I need to close my eyes to appreciate this...Chewy alcohol creates profound seismic vibrations in the palate...I love to be haunted by the thought of a great barley wine...Thanks radiomgb!...

Bottle shared by Drew, thanks. Pours a clear deep amber with a gray head that starts and remains at the edges. Aroma has a strong caramel note with sweet grains and a hint of grass. Flavor has a combination of sweet and earthy grains with a hint of earthy grassiness.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Wax capped bottle thanks to WeeHeavySD, thanks Jon! Pours with a smallish, creamy off-white head that stays for a while and leaves some lace. Murky red body. Some alcohol legs above the lace. Aroma is classic malty barley wine with notes of plum, fig, brandy, toffee, spicy hops, and marzipan. This would be a great candidate for barrel aging. Taste is sweet with rotten fruits, toffee, a few banana esters, chocolate, dirt, cognac, and berries. Warming, but well hidden for the ABV. Light bubbles and very syrupy. Very good beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Shared by bhensonb. Pours dark brown with a thin beige head and a sharp malt aroma. The flavor is raisins and caramel, and strangely hoppy too with a bit of pine and a warming alcohol finish. Complex and delicious.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2004 vintage courtesy of footbalm. Bomber pours clear copper with thin head. The aroma is rich creamy and yummy. I get creamy candy caramel, some dark fruity esters, some alcohol and a bit of vanilla. Amazing and interesting. The taste is the same as the aroma with chewy sticky maltiness, a bit of pine flavor non hop bitterness, caramel goodness and a nice warming sensation. This brew has aged greacefully. Wonderful.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to styles! Pour was a deep, sparkly ruby with a ring and a spattering of off-white head. Huge aroma with dark fruits and raspberries, grassy hoppage and caramel... but the big, mean alcohol lurking in there almost washed the rest of the nose away. First impression on the tastebuds was tart raspberries and bright alcohol. Caramel and dark fruity sweetness follow, along with some herbal/grassy hoppage. The alcohol never lets you forget that it’s there. Finish lasted a while, with dark berries and booze... mild herbal bitterness. Tart and bitter from the fruit and alcohol on the palate, yet there was enough malt presence to balance things out and provide a nice distribution of flavors. Warming and intoxicating going down. Good young... looking forward to seeing if greatness ensues with age!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by Eric. Pours a murky dark brown with a small head. The aroma is full and nice; a smooth sweetness and a bunch of fruit. The taste is also full of fruit and some sweet candy. There is a really strong alcohol aspect, almost overpowering. It burns like a much stronger alcohol and dominates the taste. Overall, quite good and very strong.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a murky dark brown with a nice, but short-lived light tan head. Lots of large yeast clumps sink to the bottom of the glass. Rich complex caramel malty aroma with some aged butterscotch and dark fruit complexity. Starts thick, malty, and sweet with some diacetyl and candy licorice flavor with a sticky sweet, warming finish. Could hide its alcohol a little better, but has nice complexity. Thanks to goldtwins for sharing!

A Mes rate. Bottle at Borefts 10am day after hotel tasting.
Excellent amber colour with a really good beige head. Slightly cheesey but all round an excellent barley wine. More sugary than I would normally like but there is no denying it’s very tasty. Excellent spicy notes, plenty of chewy caramel malt and a good warming feel all the way through. Good stuff.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. bottle from sprinkle. Pours a clear reddish copper color with a faint whitish ring and very little carbonation. The aroma is thick with caramel malt, ripe fruits (cherry, raisins), alcohol but in a good way. This alcohol is more like an apartif. The flavor is sweet chewy caramel malt along with a touch of roast. The fruits are cherry, raisin, and apricot all at the point of peak ripeness. There is some hop induced bitterness midway remaining to the finish. The alcohol is present but much like you would find with an after dinner drink and encourages you to savor each sip. I like the way everything plays on each other. Full bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel that is smooth going down. The alcohol is present, but never in a harsh way which serves to hide the true ABV. This is a very solid offering that I am glad to have had the opportunity to try.
