12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, Winter 2012 bottling. Pours cloudy almost opaque dark reddish brown color with a small light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big caramel, raisin, dark bread, brown sugar, toffee, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove, earth, roasted malt, chocolate, and light herbal. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and spice notes. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, molasses, raisin, dark bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, roasted malt, chocolate, toast, prune, earth, and light herbal spiciness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, dark fruit, dark bread, brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, roasted malt, chocolate, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of robust flavors; with a nice malt backbone over the spices; and almost zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice winter warmer style. Very nice robust and balanced flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Tap at Fermentoren Aarhus. Pours clear, dark brown with a small, oily, off white head. Aroma is packed with sweet christmas stuff; clove, clove, clove, clove, clove, clove, sweet orange peel, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, dough, dark malts and vanilla. Taste has all of the same stuff, but is not as sweet, and fortunately has some hops to balance out this madness. Carb is mesium and alcohol is well hidden. Never have i had such a christmassy beer. Wow.

355 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma is very spicy with nutmeg, some roastiness, biscuit and clove. Flavour of toasted malts, nutmeg, some metallic notes, biscuit, harsh grassy bitterness and grains. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. Harsh dry finish with unfortunately some more metallic off-flavours. Feels old. Drink this when it’s fresh.

Pour is a dark brown, almost black with an average tan head. Aroma is pretty much all holiday spice. Nutmeg, allspice and a little clove. Flavor is toffee and licorice with the nutmeg and other spices secondary. Finish is a bit of roasted malt maybe a wee bit of coffee and a little touch of the alcohol. I’m a sucker for a nice spiced winter warmer and this does not disappoint. Found in a bargain bin but it’s still holding up.

355ml bottle from Saveur Biere

Dark look with a small foam. Aroma is christmas like, notes of cardamom and cinnamon. Lot of different spices in flavour. Not really my thing or just totally wrong time for this beer.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark, opaque brown with some reddish notes. Small, brown head. The aroma is vanilla, toffee, cloves, cinnamon, and caramel. The flavor is very sweet, with a nice savory spice. Very low bitterness. Medium body, creamy, a little grainy, and slightly astringent. Overall, this is a very spice-forward and flavorful beer. The flavor is fair, but doesn’t live up to the promise of the initial aroma.

Bottle shared with my bro and dad. Aroma of molasses, caramel, and dark fruits. Pours dark brown with a small white head. Taste is sweet caramel, molasses, toffee, and a delicious malt finish. The spices don’t really shine but they certainly accent an amazingly sweet blend of malt flavors. Well done.

Bottle from Sam’s Quik shop. Pours dark, dark, brown with a whitish head. Leaves a fair amount of lacing. Get some of the spices on the nose. Tastes mostly of cinnamon and nutmeg on the tongue. Has a bit of an alcohol burn on the finish. Not my fave of the style.

Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen, listed at 6.5%
The color is black, with creamy brownish head. Strong spicy aroma, at Least this is nutmeg and cinnamon (and not cassia). Good flavor of dark chocolate, roasted malt, with moderate but pleasant residual sweetness, and strong spicy character (nutmeg and liquorice). Although I don’t favor spiced beers, this blend with the dark chocolate is well achieved.
Pumpkin pie with chocolate frosting.
