Draft - Vintage 2013 - Dark fruit, cardamom and other light spice. Deep maroon with a decent beige head. Dark chocolate, light Christmas spice and a light boozy finish. Very rich and nice for the cold weather.

Deep hazy and pungent deep dark amber coloured body with a very defined two centimetre tall tan head - very nice looking and showing some ruby tints when held up to a light. Aroma of alcohol, pit fruits, toffee, earth, scotch, vanilla and tons of spices - cloves, anise, allspice and even some spruce noticeable. Full-bodied; Very spicey flavour at first that hits hard and very nice - deep and pungent throughout with a lot of caramelised sugars, some notes of pit fruits and a scotch and alcohol flavour noticeable throughout. Aftertaste shows earth, spruce, pine, vanilla and some cognac, all balanced well with some sugars and depth - the complexity is nice as well. Overall, a very nicely spiced beer with a good depth and even better complexity - great to sample and while not the best in this category, one to try if you can find it! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 20-November-2014 for US$2,49 sampled at home in Washington on 14-December-2014.

Served in sampler. Very dark brown with nice clove aroma. Sweet spicy start leading to a bitter short finish. Good choice for a holiday brew.

Bottle poured a dark brown in color with ruby highlights when held to the light and a quickly fading coating of dark tan head. Aroma has Christmas spices, chocolate, cinnamon, and some dark fruit. Mouth feel is medium and the carbonation is on the lower side. Flavor has some malt to carry it, cinnamon, chocolate, nutmeg, dark fruit touches, and a bit of heat.

Pours deep brown into a snifter. White head quickly recedes to skim pool surface. Chocolate and nutmeg aromas. Thin with vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg upfront turning to mild coffee and toffee in the spiced finish.

Bottled. Pours black with a small tan head and lacing. Aroma is really rich cinnamon, some chocolate, roasted malts, little bit of nutmeg. Flavor is chocolate and cinnamon up front, some nutmeg in the middle and a little bit of spice in the back of the throat as it finishes. Slightly bitter finish as well. Basically a stout with Christmas spices. Nice pleasant mouthfeel, but could be a little more substantial.

A quintessential Christmas Ale, with flavors of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and undertones of black licorice. Rich, malty caramel lies beneath and the heat is covered well by its depth. Festive as balls.

2013 vintage. Pours dark brown to black with a fair amount of floating sediment and a thinner khaki head that settles to a ring and leaves some ropes of dripping lace around the edge. Nose involves molasses, winter spices, toast, hints of dark fruit, perhaps some leather, some savory qualities, maybe some marshmallow. Quite sweet, fairly bitter. Fuller bodied, viscous and oily, soft carb, finishing quite dry with spice and whatís left of the hops. Interesting brew, like a spiced porter or stout. It must have been well hopped to still have that drying bite on the end, but itís maybe a bit sweeter up front than I would like. After a year the spices arenít nearly as in-your-face as fresh, which I appreciate.
