From notes. On draft at HopCat in Detroit for the Dark Saturday takeover on November 28. The pour is excellent. Itís jet black with a thin ring of darker tan head that recedes to nothing. The aroma is a little disappointing. I love hazelnuts, so I was thinking this had a lot of potential, but I was wrong. There is a subtle nuttiness to it, but itís just chocolate and a roasted malt that comes off a touch bitter. The flavor is, if anything, just as disappointing. There is a light chocolate to accompany a light roasted malt, but thatís where the good things end. Itís just a light, plain, bland porter with a hint of nuttiness. The mouth feel is a little thin and watery with a light carbonation and a lingeringly roasted malt on the finish. I donít know why I get somewhat excited about Dark Horse beers anymore.

I like hazelnut. This is too sweet and thin to be very drinkable. Hopcat detroit tap takeover.

Draft at the Dark Horseís annual Crawfish boil. Name listed as AK 47 Chocolate Hazelnut Porter. Pours a very dark brown. Medium sized light tan head. Nutty chocolate aroma. Flavor is of nutty chocolate, more chocolate then nut to me. The nuttiness makes it feel more like a brown to me, however the chocolate flavor and the darker color I guess push it to a porter. Good drinkability. Also had a draft at the Darkhorse tap room approx a month ago, but didnít take notes. Glad they saved some of this for the Crawfish Boil. Of the special brews that Iíve had at the Dark Horse I could see this one being brewed again (hopefully). As usual Aaron and his crew have come up with another fine beer

Black pour off white thin head ... chocolate and hazelnut light roasted aroma .... taste is of hazelnut with dark chocolate bitterness and thinner roasted coffee with a bitter thin finish .... a weak porter drinks more like a brown ale .... not bad but not great abv hidden pretty well
