3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Pigfoot (2267) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JAN 16, 2005
Murky dark orange color, small, brief white head.
Funky, wild aroma, big, ripe citrus, orange and grapefruit, enormous yeast, side of spice.
Tasty, if a bit soft, bursting with fruit...green apples, berries and grapes, more citrus, still...Full bodied, thinnish finish, lingering fruit.
Body lags a bit at the end, good at the first gulp, but fades at the end.
Slightly sour, but well-balanced.
Good Belgian-style amber....nice drinking, nice tasting...they’ve got to work on the label artwork, though.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Inveigler (371) - Ferndale, Michigan, USA - DEC 30, 2004
I am not sure what makes this a Belgian Amber. I am not sensing any of the traditional spiciness in the nose, well maybe a little upon second sniff. But the beer itself doesn’t taste up to Dark Horse snuff. In fact, it tastes a lot like a lot of the extract brews I started off doing with my homebrew kit. A little bit of twang. This stuff is decent but that is about it.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 flemdawg (502) - Naples, Florida, USA - DEC 10, 2004
Hazy amber color with an off white head. A small amount of yeast setiment on the bottom of the glass. Fruity sweetness maybe like a overly ripe peach. There is also a hint of yeasts in the aroma as well. Slight hint of of sugar sweetness followed by a bittery yeast taste. Not too bad, but it was a bit thin for my tastes.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 atpayne (615) - Zionsville, Indiana, USA - DEC 8, 2004
Slightly cloudy amber with little watery off-white head. Belgian aroma with sour yeast. Unexpected early citrus bitterness very up front in the mouth. Sour wheaty yeast and a small amount of nuttiness. Strange mix of flavors.

smells yeasty, sweet and slightly raisinish, brown thin appearance, with a thin ring of head, watery mouthfeel and finish, initially sweet and slightly malty, atleast the label is a step up from other darkhorse beers i’ve had.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 beermatrix (1497) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - JUL 17, 2004
Rusty orange color, softly clouded, firm and frothy finger high dusty whitish cap, keeps a good skim always present; lacing in moderate thin sheeting and strings. Aroma is fruity of lemon and pear and yeasty much like most pale Belgian ales. A bit bready and slightly spicy with lemon zest, white pepper, and clove. Taste follows suit, solidly spicy with pepper and clove, fairly zesty with a lemon spritz of peels, superb yeasty tones, great bready malts, fluffy and quite full body. Slightly dry finish with dry wood and yeast. One solid intrepetation of of hefe on steroids, I mean Belgian Pale. Good stuff.

On tap at the brewery. A small sized tan head with fine sized bubbles that mostly diminished. The hue was dark orange and the body was transparent. The aroma of this beer was malty, hoppy, sweet and some clove notes. The flavor was sweet, hoppy and some fruitiness. The mouthfeel was hoppy and somewhat smooth. The lacing was very sparse.
