4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 proc (342) - Dearborn, Michigan, USA - JAN 18, 2003
An excellent beer. Pours out to a cloudy amber in the glass with minimal head. Aroma is very light, with a faint yeast smell and malt as well. Taste. Here is where it shines. It has the wonderful malt taste prevelent with most ambers, but with a slight clove and spice taste associated with wheats. It finishes with a slightly sweet/spice to it that begs for another sip. It got better as it warmed up.
I will be buying this again. Yum.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2008 I’m not a big fan of Belgian beers. This was Kind of weird. The earthy and pepper flavor is what made this different from most. Rerate: It’s been along time since The last try. This brew is outstanding. My favorite amber by far. Fruity aroma/flavor. Slick refreshing palate. Wonderful!!!

12 oz bottle with a black cap. This isn’t a style I normally enjoy but my first bottle entertained me enough to write this review for the second.
Pours a nice amber color, the head is a bit wear but that is the ony downside to the appearance.
The smell is basic, but clean. Some amber malts, a subtle hint of hops, not so much, but as per the style.
The taste is where this one shines, this could have been your generic run of the mill American amber ale crap but it really reminds me more of a Belgian amber. It has a crisp malt taste, but it has a bit more yeast presence than the average American amber ale. The hops are subtle but key in backing these flavors.
The mouthfeel is probably the best part about this one, it is lightly carbonated, good when chilled, super refreshing.
Normally I don’t like my beer ice cold or form a bottle, but this is one i could tolerate in those conditions, though it is also quite nice form my glass, reminds me of if PALM were a microbrew, cheers.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2009 On tap at Jerry’s. Orange-amber with big, foamy tan head / Caramel, banana, and malt nose / Light body with some creamy hops adding a nice balance, and with decent finish / Flavors of burnt sugar, banana, bubblegum, caramel, and sour malt / A very peculiar addition to the loose amber category. More of a Belgian ale.

Deep rubyish amber. Little head, barely any lacing. Summery. Creamy. Slight fruitiness from the yeast, refreshing. Good carbonation.

Rusty orange color, softly clouded, firm and frothy finger high dusty whitish cap, keeps a good skim always present; lacing in moderate thin sheeting and strings. Aroma is fruity of lemon and pear and yeasty much like most pale Belgian ales. A bit bready and slightly spicy with lemon zest, white pepper, and clove. Taste follows suit, solidly spicy with pepper and clove, fairly zesty with a lemon spritz of peels, superb yeasty tones, great bready malts, fluffy and quite full body. Slightly dry finish with dry wood and yeast. One solid intrepetation of of hefe on steroids, I mean Belgian Pale. Good stuff.

On tap at the brewery. Murky, slightly cloudy bronze-to-orange in color. Best smelling amber ever - wood chips, cedar chests, honey, maple and sweet caramel. Hell yes. Sweet hops flavor. Vanilla and clover blends with lemons and nectar to form an ideal session ale. Light, smooth and the most unique amber I’ve had to date.

Pours a hazy reddish color with thin white head. Aroma is light biscuit malt with light floral hops. Taste is a very well balanced mix of hops and bready malt. Everything fits well for a style i don’t usually drink. This is an excellent beer.

Amber/brown color with a short lived white head. Aroma of yeast, some spice and hops. Flavor of yeast, caramel, some spices and hops. Very unusual for a amber ale.

This is one of my favorite beers to drink at the Dark horse brewery, great for washing down a pizza.
