4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 beermatrix (1497) - Twin Cities, USA - JUL 17, 2004
Rusty orange color, softly clouded, firm and frothy finger high dusty whitish cap, keeps a good skim always present; lacing in moderate thin sheeting and strings. Aroma is fruity of lemon and pear and yeasty much like most pale Belgian ales. A bit bready and slightly spicy with lemon zest, white pepper, and clove. Taste follows suit, solidly spicy with pepper and clove, fairly zesty with a lemon spritz of peels, superb yeasty tones, great bready malts, fluffy and quite full body. Slightly dry finish with dry wood and yeast. One solid intrepetation of of hefe on steroids, I mean Belgian Pale. Good stuff.

Bottle. Pours copper with almost zero head, no lacing, and no carbonation. Aroma is fairly bready but nothing too distinct. Taste is fairly sweet but not sugary. It’s more of a mild sweetness from the malt. Palate is full for the style. Overall, a decent amber but nothing exciting.

Pours a cloudy amber with a 1 finger, creamy beige head. Aroma is toast, toffee, fruity yeast and citrus. Flavor is toffee, biscuit, tree fruit, woody malt, planty, and citrus hops. Palate is lightish bodied, with an off dry feel and light, but sharp carbonation. Not bad, but not really my thing.
