I was shocked at how much I would love this beer. I had Hobo’s Breath Brown Ale from Mt. Pleasant, MI a few weeks back and loved it but they were out at my favorite watering hole. This one tasted similar, with chocolate, caramel, nuts and roasted malt. But what shocked me was how smooth it went down and the excellent aftertaste. I would certainly recommend this if you can find this.

16 oz pour at the brewery...yummy. Smooth, mild....hey, it’s a brown ale and therefore pretty mellow / mild by definition....this is a good one...wish we had this spot in Chicago. Tasty.

(Bottle 22/04-2012) Low light brown head, unclear dark brown color, nutty aroma, fit body, slightly sweet taste, low medium co2. Fairly good brown ale. BB date 01.04.2014.

Changing aroma and thin brown appearance begin a mild taste without much mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very smooth but a little too strong and bitter than I hoped. Was served on tap, curiuous how it is in bottles.

Pours dark, dark brown, almost purple with some ruby highlights and a thin cappuccino foam-colored head. Tea-herbal earthy hop presence under some deep caramel, raisin, and plum malt backbone. Taste is pretty sweet, but not too much as it’s balanced by a fairly sizable bitterness and slight tart bite. Palate fuller but not heavy, pretty soft carbonation, and a rounded lasting finish. This one becomes more rewarding as it warms. Unlike any "brown ale" I’ve had before. Really damn good.

Shared by turdferguson. Thanks Sam. Pours a soft burnt copper brown with two fingers of sandy tan head. Very interesting nose, tons of character. Very bready and biscuity with some cacao and roast barley husk. Slightly coffee-ish. Flavor is what you’d expect, lots of toasted grain with a slightly cereal quality and biscuit/fresh baked bread. Very light hop character, medium body with a dry finish.

Bottle from the local. Looks, smells, and tastes like your common american brown ale. Dark garnet with a small off-white head. Toasty and nutty nose, some light brown sugar sweetness, roast. Flavor is more of the same. Very drinkable without any noticeable flaws. Would drink again.

355ml bottle. Darkest brown with average frothy off-white to beige head. Grassy aroma, coffee surrogate, unroasted cacao or coffee beans. Taste has a subtile sweetness that could be milk chocolate, but somewhat all tasty notes seem to stuck in inception, the result is a characterless strawy, almost soapy brew on a undefined and undetermined malt basis. A Dark Horse failure I’d never have expected.
