4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle pours oily black with minimal tan head. Aroma bourbon with roast/malts. Taste malts, cocoa, roast, bourbon. Palate thick, not sticky or syrupy. Finish nice balance between coca/hop bitterness and bourbon. Alcohol very prominent with heavy alcohol burn.
I’m not a huge fan of the regular Plead the 5th but the bourbon adds a new dimension and really balances out some of the bitterness. Excellent beer.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle pours an oily, opaque black with some cloudy tan head. Nose is really awesome, vanilla, cola, cake, molasses, brown sugar, sorghum syrup, a little coffee, some nuts. Flavor is sweet, vanilla, chocolate, coconut, malty, molasses, coffee with cream, Kahlua, lightly salty. Medium bodied, sweet, super smooth finish.

Light black, big time bourbon aroma, lots of bourbon and vanilla taste, more sweet than I expected. Wouldn’t really want a lot, but really fantastic

12 oz bottle courtesy of Dak. Thanks. Pours an opaque jet black color with a small brown head that quickly dissipates to a fine ring. The aroma is big and bold with lots of dark fruits, black malts and a bit o whiskey. The flavor showcases raisins, dates, plums, burnt malts, well balanced bourbon, a trace of vanilla and some bitter dark chocolate. The palate is full and smooth with soft carbonation. The finish is long with lingering bourbon and chocolate. Overall: This really hit the spot. I loved it.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared by a kind soul at STL big black beer bash. Pour is pretty much black with a thin ring of brown foam. Aroma is very smooth with hints of roasted malt, vanilla, brown sugar, and a touch of bourbon. Flavor is also quite smooth with notes of toffee, smooth roasted malt, faint bourbon, and a nice vanilla note. The best word to describe this one for me is smooth. Very cohesive and well-constructed.

Big thanks to Dougofthefuture for holding this great tasting!
Poured from a bomber into a snifter
A. Pours a dark charcoal color with a caramel head about 1mm thick. Settles as a nice foamy ring around the glass
S. Sweet chocolate dominating the smell, noticeable bourbon, caramel and light fruit
T. Sweet and sugary, but not overbearing at all. Very very malty, with dark chocolate and a slight toffee finish.
M. Medium body, coarse and dry finish
O. This is true a top shelf beer. It’s sweet but not over done, very malty but not dominating the whole beer, the chocolate is at a good level, and a nice light coffee finish. This is a beer I will be looking to get more and more of. I suggest everyone try this!

355mL 2011 ed silver wax thanks to mikem409. Pours ink with a larger reddish mocha head settling abruptly to a bubbly layer. Nose is richer vanilla with thicker sweet bourbon. Very reminiscent of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. Rich wood and mild dark cherries. Very inviting, dessert nose. Taste is silky, rich, spicy bourbon, big dark chocolate. Thankfully only hints of ash that sometimes plague Dark Horse beers. Bitter, thicker. Very enjoyable. Great palate. Lower carbonation with super rich, oily palate. Beautiful stuff. Underrated even in the Top 100. Should be Top 50.

Gigantic thanks to GT2 for this bottle! Pitch black pour, creamy light brown head. Nose holds beautiful vanilla bean, woody bourbon, rich creamy lactic sweetness, and some lovely roast character that, thankfully, fights through the barrel aged sweetness. Flavor is really beautiful; starts with beautiful milk chocolate and cacao, along with some great espresso bean. The finish is a delightful combination of molasses/vanilla wood sweetness and awesome creaminess at the end. Outrageously silky palate, low carbonation. Very very very nice.
