3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle rating. Attractive looking beer. Murky orange with great lacing. Aroma is citrus, mango, and grapefruit. This is all about the hops, which is expected given the style. I liked this. A little like the Fish Tale Organic I recently rated, but it is a little smoother on the palate than that beer. I would rank this in the top 25% of IPAís Iíve tried up to this point.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
This brew pours a slightly hazed golden color w/ a medium sized, semi creamy froth. Head retention is good and leaves a decent lace. Aroma is all aged hops. Medium full nectar w/ soft and creamy residual effers. Balanced right off the bat. The malts are actually in the background while the hoppy character is at full play here. I donít even get any caramel. Just velvety hops front to back. Not much else to speak of as itís not entirely complex but itís a rather nice deviation from the more malty styles out there. The finish is bittered perfectly and has a velvety texture to it. Overall: the hops seem to have an aged, musty character and I wouldnít call this a grapefruit bomb either. Itís all citrus rind but no defined fruit.. Itís all hops amigos.

Tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Deep pale orange beer with a massive thick off-white head. Great aroma with loads of tangerine, orange, and citrus. Sweet bready malts with a light chewiness. A touch of biscuit/cookie dough maltiness. Very fragrant with suggestions of spice among all of the citrusy hop notes. Itís not terribly bitter, but there is so much hop flavour here that you donít really notice the lowish IBUs. A quality IPA.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very cloudy and dandelion yellow in appearance. Aroma of old orange juice, urinal cakes, and floral suggestions. A late hint of doughy yeast. Mild grapefruit flavor, earthy with a vegetal bitterness. Dead flowers and sour lime zest. A heavy coating of peaty oak swells in the mouth after swallowing. Definitely slightly soapy. Palate reeks a bit with remnants of expired ingredients clinging to the smooth tide. A half-fermented citrus glaze. Undeniably promising - it has the fragrant, subtle sophistication of the finest IPAís hidden in its entanglements somewhere and even seems to have it at its heart. Like a flower eaten away from the inside out.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Dry hops on the nose with some spices (nutmeg). Brown sugar, caramel, sweet sticky malt: fairly aromatic. Pours cloudy dark orange. Thin white head with sticky lacing. Very dry flavor. Dusty almost. Some sweet malt. Fairly bitter. Medium bodied and creamy. Finishes quite dry. Very well put together IPA. Could stand to have a bit more malt in the flavor to balance the almost bracingly dry hops.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a wonderful yellow/orange; it almost looks radioactive. Smells of grassy hops and citrus. It is citrusy and crisp up front and then the bitterness hits you. Itís an medium bitterness so itís not that much over the top. A decent balance of everything.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Yum. First instinct. Pours a darker yellow/orange with lots of "flavor chunks". Nicely balanced flavor of citrus juices. Not as bitter as i like IPAís, but good nonetheless. Maybe itll go in the book as an "easier drinking IPA" with many of these being able to be drank in one sitting without overpowering of all the bitterness. I think i could take a 6 pack home and be very happy for a friday night. Or any type of game on the couch with buddies.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thanks to my Secret Santa for this one. Had it back to back with the Barley Island Barfly IPA and this just didnít stand up. Aroma was nicer. Grassy hops all the way with just a hint of grapefruit. Pour was a cloudy dark orange with no head. A little too sweet for me. The hops seem to take the back seat. They are there, but not strong enough. Too little carbonation also. Good but not more.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
Poured a hazy dark color with a white head that lasted a while. The aroma was citrus, floral and hoppy. The flavor was very hoppy with a dry finish. I suppose it was OK for an IPA, Iím just not a fan of the style.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
NorCal tasting July 07 - Iím wondering if this beer is a bit old, because there was some oxidation creeping into it in both aroma and taste. Even with that, this beer still was very tasty. Nose was caramel sweet with a good helping of piney goodness. Appearance was a burnt orange color, nice head (always did appreciate a darker IPA for some reason). Mouthfeel was smooth, yet lively enough to notice. The one-two punch of hops and malts were nice but a bit too much alcohol crept into the taste which was a bit of a downer (esp. for only a 6%íer). Overall I did enjoy this beer and look forward to more Dark Horse beers.
