Bottle. Pour is a light brown. The aroma has mostly roasted nuts, and some sweetness. The taste is interestingly sweet. Better than I was thinking, but far from a normal "strong ale".

18th July 2011 Hazy red - amber beer, small pale tan head. Semi soft dry palate. A little toffee malt. Fruity coca cola. The fruit is complex and sweet. Minerally dry finish. Comes over quite Belgian - lacks a bit of body but a nice beer.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 hopdog (7660) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 17, 2012
12oz bottle. Poured a brown color with a small sized off white head. Caramel, roast, and dark fruits. Chocolate in the tastes too. Sweeter than the Arbor version (side x side comparison).
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Damico (1922) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 13, 2012
Pours bubbly amber in color with a beige head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is light sweet malts again like the arbor. The flavor brings some sweet and almost a bit of tang on the malts with a light bitter hoppy dry ending, not so pleasant on my palate though.
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 libertine (143) - rochester hills, Michigan, USA - AUG 9, 2012
pours a murky brown with a tan head.aroma is sweet and malty.actually smells a lot higher in abv than it is.taste is malt, dried dark fruits and burnt sugars.has a fully body and a thin syrup mouthfeel and a very long bitter finish.this is one of those beers where you just dont know what to say about it.its not horrible, but in the same token its not good.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 seymour (1099) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - JUL 18, 2012
Shared at the Royale gathering last night, thanks Blake! Imperial Brown Ale? Old Ale? I dunno, I guess it doesn’t matter because whatever it was supposed to be, it was only so-so. Mushy, residual, oxidized malt sweetness with little or no hops presence. Somewhat sour and harsh. Full-bodied, low carbonation, sticky aftertaste. Eh.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 phaleslu (4459) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 18, 2012
12 oz. bottle shared by bsuedekum- thanks, Blake! Dark Horse version, 2011 release, black cap. Pours a somewhat murky brownish-amber with a small beige head. The aroma is pretty faint, with caramel malts, nuts, raisins, and brown sugar. The flavor is pretty much the same- dark dried fruits, nuts, caramel malts, and brown sugar. Not a whole lot going on here. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel with some grit late. We couldn’t figure out what this was supposed to be; a little research reveals ’imperial brown ale’.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 crackedmachine (412) - Seattle, Washington, USA - APR 2, 2012
Pours a cloudy, murky brown with a medium, short-lived head the color of brown sugar. Aroma of sweet dried pit fruits and malts. Flavor is heavily malty and sweet, with tons of dried fruit, a little cocoa, a hint of coffee grounds, and a very slight sour kick. Medium bodied and very drinkable. Very tasty.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 esjaygee (3209) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 15, 2011
Murky chestnut with a creamy tan head that slowly fades away. Aroma of dark and roasted malts, coffee and dark fruit. Taste of dark fruits, tannins, cocoa, coffee, mild sugar and something a touch sour. Fairly acidic though not as much as the arbor version. As to which one was better, that’s a dark horse a piece.
