Ruby red, blackish pour from bottle with small off-white head. Aroma of heavy brown sugar, maple syrup, and altogether too sweet. Flavor of is more resinous, yet still too sweet. Burnt sugar and alcohol in the finish. Sticky, and too much too drink even at 12oz

Pours a cloudy, murky brown with a medium, short-lived head the color of brown sugar. Aroma of sweet dried pit fruits and malts. Flavor is heavily malty and sweet, with tons of dried fruit, a little cocoa, a hint of coffee grounds, and a very slight sour kick. Medium bodied and very drinkable. Very tasty.

Murky chestnut with a creamy tan head that slowly fades away. Aroma of dark and roasted malts, coffee and dark fruit. Taste of dark fruits, tannins, cocoa, coffee, mild sugar and something a touch sour. Fairly acidic though not as much as the arbor version. As to which one was better, that’s a dark horse a piece.

Draft at Dark Horse 4 Elf release party. Pours a dark brown. Tan head. Mild nutty aroma. Flavor is sweet brown sugar with maybe some dark fruits. Lots of nutty malt. Palate is on the big side of medium. This is bigger then your average brown. A nice collaboration between Dark Horse and Arbor.

Bottle. Dark horse and Arbor brewing. Pours a muddy nut brown color with a small egg shell head. Nose is dates, bread, walnuts, dark fruits and light fruity hop note. Palate is clean and crisp with a light bite. Flavor is dark fruits, apricots, doughy breads.

HonkeyBra (2281) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - AUG 18, 2011
Sampled at the Hop Cat. Dark brown pour with a tan head. Aroma of cherries, mild brown sugar and strong dark fruitiness. Kind of strong bitterness combined with the sweetness at hand. This is a fruity, spicy tasting beer with tons of brown sugar and a fair amount of apparent alcohol. Full bodied, this has an appropriate amount of carbonation for the style. Hard to dislike this one even if you hate the trend of imperial brown ales. Good beer from a great brewery.

This is malt driven, actually it’s a lot like a nutty brown ale except for q bit of creosote in the finish.

Looks to be a new batch of this with a new label. Thanks to jale for the bottle. Served in a tulip. Pours a very dark brown with a light tan head. Good lacing and quite a bit of retention time. Thin cap throughout. The nose carries some roasted malt along with some dark fruits and cherries. The flavor is semi-sweet with a bit of roasted malt. There is some dark chocolate in the background, as well as a light cherry flavor. Dark fruits and a slight bit of alcohol. Medium body with low carbonation and a bit of booze in the finish. Pretty good. Thanks again, Jim. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-06-2011

Pours deep brown, medium tan head that lingers a bit. Nose is dark fruits, chocolate, caramel malt. Mouthfeel is smooth, a bit creamy, medium body, moderate carbonation. Just a touch of sweetness up front, mild earthy hops and a slightly spicy finish. Feels like a cross between a dubbel and a Belgian IPA or some odd twist like that. Pretty tasty, unique.

Deep red in color. Clear with a wispy cream colored head that circles the glass. Blueberry, raisin, plum aromas mixed with caramel malt, alcohol and a hint of vanilla. Medium in body, slick on the tongue with a short semi-dry finish. Quite sweet and fruity, yet not cloying. A touch of alcohol warmth on the end. Not what I was expected, but pleasant.

aroma is floral hops hidden beneath cleaner malts, very low caramel with almost no sweetness despite wonderfully caramelized color and active carb. flavor is odd herbal sweetness, brown sugar up front with a bitterness that lingers later. an odd bird of a brown ale.
