COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "the Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops, they’re just not fast enough. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us). 98 IBU's

Aroma: not much to say of this one. Mostly brown sugary malt in the nose; don't get much hop in the nose, outside of maybe a fresh tree scent that's barely detectable Appearance: slight cloudy/hazy dark mahogany. Thin white head that doesn't stick around Taste: this is the shining moment of this beer. Initial flavor is a wash of molassesy malt, followed by a resinous middle that dissolves into a hugely piney dry and bitter finish. Hides the alcohol well for its strength but if you look for it you can find it for sure. Palate: thick, with pretty minimal carb on this guy. Not too much to say for it; definitely doesn't nail the mouthfeel unless you want something really huge Overall: this beer misses some of the little things but really nails the flavor. If you're looking for a huge double IPA that doesn't get too sweet (all things considered) I would jump on this one. Oddly enough, seems like it would cellar into something really interesting. Regardless, solid beer here

(Thanks Chris "budznsudz") Bottle. A- Caramel, bready, tropical citrus, dough. A- Brown orange color, completely cloudy liquid, off white head. T- Caramel, burnt, dough, bread, sweet, malty, bitter, citrus. P- Full body, average texture, soft carbonation, smooth finish. O- Had about two years of age on it. It definitely mellowed out with age as the caramel has really come through. Not bad, but still nothing I was overly fond of.

Beerdedone (2488) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 15, 2014
Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange amber with a small creamy off-white head. Aroma of caramel, pine needles, citrus and grapefruit. Flavor of sticky pine resin, caramel malts, grapefruit, earth, citrus and had a warming alcohol finish. Full bodied, average carbonation, syrupy texture.

bytemesis (2569) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - APR 14, 2014
Bottle thanks to BlowOffTube! Pours hazy orange with a medium off-white head that dissipates quickly with some lacing. Aroma is a fairly light mix of bread, caramel, pine, citrus. Flavor follows, medium sweet and light bitter, lots of maltiness and piney hops, but not harsh or intimidating. Medium plus body, creamy mouthfeel. Interesting DIPA, in the style of 90 minute with lots of hops and sweetness on the backbone. However there is not enough fragrant juicy hop character to really carry the ball forward for me. Kinda hot as well, not surprising given ABV, but a little more than I wanted.
