COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "the Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops, they’re just not fast enough. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us). 98 IBU's

First let me say that I scored this beer as a double ipa since that is what dark horse is calling it. This is a very nice beer, but it is just to bad that this is an American barley wine and not an DIPA. As a barley wine this would score much higher. It is just to bad that companies have no clue as to how to label their beer correctly. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Almost an amber pour with white head. Smells of malt and a ton of hops. The sweet malts almost immediately give way to the hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

DocJitsu (969) - Florida, USA - AUG 2, 2014
Pours a murky golden-orange color with a khaki head. Head retention is poor, given its ample size upon pouring. Pungent aromas of competing toasty malt and citrus. Moderately thick and lightly oily textures. Big malt, but balanced well with citrusy hops. Finish is plenty bitter, but retains a sweetness. Alcohol is quite evident.

355 mL bottle. Disappointed with this one. There is an initial hit of bitterness, citrus and caramel in the flavour, but then . . . nothing. The flavour disappears, never to return. The bitterness lingers, but it’s awful lonely.

Deep copper, darker than a lot of IPAs. Not crazy about the aroma, harsh. Very sweet up front. Not as hoppy as I expected.

Draught at Euston Tap, London on 16 Dec 2012. Poured a hazy amber, with a dense off-white head. Aroma of sweet malts, caramel and some underlying bitter pine-like hops. Spicy hop flavours, with orange peal and apricot and grapefruit. Finish was toffee, bitter resin and big marmalade.

Pours a med amber, thin off white head. Aroma is big booze, malt, sugar, resiny hop, dark caramel, toffee. Flavor is huge malt, sugar, booze... Big body, gooey. Not really my bag

Bottle from Haskells. Dark orange almost tan. Thick white head. Piney, syrupy, some sour fruit aroma. Lots of layers of flavor. Wet and hoppy with strong alcohol notes. Coats the mouth, warming. Not as expected from a dipa. Very interesting, even if not my favorite.

Bottle. Pours deep caramel in color with medium carbonation. Caramel and hop aroma with white head that lingers. Nice caramel and resin flavor but limited complexity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Guess I better say something since I’ve got this more than enough times in trades. Most of the time in a snifter but actually twice in a chalice, interesting, sigh, no difference for the most part. The appearance was mostly a somewhat golden amber to gold looking color. The aroma is mostly bitter in the format of an AIPA to slightly showcase a decent malt background. On the palate, it sits about a light to medium on the body. With a mostly somewhat sessionable sort of quality trying to compound this beer. Overall, hey now, I say this is a good beer.
