COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "the Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops, they’re just not fast enough. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us). 98 IBU's

The beer has a pleasant citrus aroma. The beer is buttery in the mouth with some acidity to balance. The beer’s taste is balanced with interesting hop and good malt backbone. It is a fine beer.

Hoppy aroma, dark clear amber, medium malty, a little less malty, more hop bitter than some imperial. Smooth finish.

On tap at the brewery while walking through the tour. Excellent beer. Wow could this easily sneak up on you at over 13% ABV. Sure doesn’t taste like that. Love the cloudy body of this beer. Aroma is very hoppy. Taste is hop forward. Nice and citrusy flavors. Great malt backbone. Decided to visit Dark Horse on my way up to the KBS release in Grand Rapids and was very pleasantly surprised. Great beers, starting with this one.

Loaded with sweet caramel, grapefruit hoppiness, lightly toasted grains, some pine and citrus. High hop bitterness without going overboard. Sweeter than I expected with hints of sugar.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2014 There was a time when it would sound crazy for me to say that Double Crooked Tree tastes bigger than its 98 IBU’s. Okay, it still sounds a little crazy. Not many people are going to say "ONLY 98 IBU’s?" Yet, with many major brewers making ales that easily blow past 100 or even 110 IBU’s, that statement isn’t as ridiculous as it sounds. Everything about this beer screams hops - the hazy, reddish hue, the massive grapefruit aroma, and of course, the huge citrusy flavor. It all points to one clear conclusion: this IPA is hoppy as hell. The strong malt presence is a godsend. It keeps the bitterness from bringing you to tears and, more importantly, coaxes out the tropical flavors of orange and peach. My bottle had the benefit of some age which helped to bring out the malt’s caramel taste. Dank, resinous, and aggressive all the way through... I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Bottle pour. Huge aroma coming from the pour. Dark red with hints of orange. First sip, notes of booze and hops. Once the burn is gone the palate opens huge notes of citrus. This one is big and scary. Not for the weak. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
