Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "the Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops, they’re just not fast enough. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us). 98 IBU's

12 oz. bottle from my friend jtw - thanks John! Aroma: nostrils burning citrusy hops explosion with spiciness and king alcohol. Aggressive sugary flavor with hops and dry & bitter finish. Alcohol kicks in with warming (or should I say burning) finish. Sticky mouthfeel. Small bottle, huge beer. Experiment with hop bitterness and alcohol but not the most drinkable and balanced DIPA.

One of the hoppiest iPas I have had lately. Strong malt backbone on this one. Pours deep orange almost brown in color. Very bitter and hoppy bite. Smells dank and hoppy. Had out of a bottle at home ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a murky copper into Leffe glass. This is my first exposure to Dark Horse and the store only limited one four pack per customer. Figured it had to be good… and it is. Really dense, sticky and hoppy. Pine and citrus with a syrupy caramel backbone. A bit hot on the palate and a very long bitterness lingers. Also has an ’earthy’ finish. Very appetizing.

I’ve been looking to try this and have had a hard time finding it. I was in Hops at 84 East in Holland, MI and they had it on draft. Served in a 12 oz. snifter it was a darkish orange color with an aroma that was both hoppy & fruity. The menu had it listed at 13.7 ABV and for this potency it was remarkably smooth and well balanced. An excellent choice for enjoying a slow extended sipping session!

It has a great subdued hop flavor with another fruit or some other taste taking most of the credit. Not the smoothest beer though.

From the 4 pack, orangy brown pour, this one says it’s 12.0%. Full of hops, i believe that they doubled up on everything, it was like drinking two beers at once. I have a question about how this beer is a 99 and other beers that are quite inferior get 100. If any beer deserves a 100 its this one.

Bottle. Pours darker orange in color with a steady whitish head. Dried fruits, vinous notes, sweet fruity candies and citrus in aroma. There’s a fairly good amount of sweet malty vibes here as well. Bitter grapefruit covered with more citrus fruityness in taste. Feel quite creamy. Leaves one with a quite bitter aftertaste even if the sweetness is present.

Citrus, juicy hops dominate the nose. Dark amber pour with a nice white head that leaves adequate lacing. Taste is like a hop bomb went off in your mouth but the caramel malts balance this beer so well. Palate is thick, hoppy up front and malty on the back end but finishes wonderfully bitter. This is a great dipa, smooth and balanced. The alcohol is hidden well. Must try.

Great DIPA that manages to be substantial without being overwhelming. Strong but still drinkable. It's hard to believe this beer clocks in at 13%. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

APPEARANCE - 1FH, opaque, amber. AROMA/SCENT - Hops, malts, floral, sweet. TASTE - Hops, nutty, pine, brown sugar, bread. MOUTHFEEL/PALATE/TEXTURE - Thick, creamy, heavy, syrupy. VALUE - $20.99 for a 4-pack. Too pricey. OVERALL/DRINKABILITY - Too boozy, not quaffable.
