COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "the Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops, they’re just not fast enough. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us). 98 IBU's

I’m a moderate hophead with a long penchant for IPA’s, but I am not liking the cut of the Imperial IPA jibb. This is as good as any double IPA as any maybe better than most. The hops are harsh and aggressisve in the aroma. Pours a nice hazy tangerine. Some hotness from the alcohol but it is overwhelmed by the hop liquor. Not my favorite beer, but I am trying to rate to style and this, as stated above, is better than most.

Holy hell. Smells strong. Malty with a big caramel note. Maybe some dark fruits. Smells like a barely wine. Pours a dark golden color. Brown like. Taste is heavy. Hoppy, tart, strong. More like a barley wine than a DIPA. Be ready to sip this. It hits you hard.

Great appearance, good tasting for an IPA, aroma was ok, overall great tasting beer.

Intense malt aromas of toffee and caramel. High fruity esters. Moderate citrus hop aroma. Appearance is a muddy dirty blonde appearance with a white head with poor head retention. Malt flavors of caramel and bread dominate the hops. Bitterness is present but the finish is sweet. Esters are high. Mouthfeel is medium with medium low carbonation. High alcohols are noticeable. Overall, it tastes more like an American barleywine than a double ipa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

First let me say that I scored this beer as a double ipa since that is what dark horse is calling it. This is a very nice beer, but it is just to bad that this is an American barley wine and not an DIPA. As a barley wine this would score much higher. It is just to bad that companies have no clue as to how to label their beer correctly. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Almost an amber pour with white head. Smells of malt and a ton of hops. The sweet malts almost immediately give way to the hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a murky golden-orange color with a khaki head. Head retention is poor, given its ample size upon pouring. Pungent aromas of competing toasty malt and citrus. Moderately thick and lightly oily textures. Big malt, but balanced well with citrusy hops. Finish is plenty bitter, but retains a sweetness. Alcohol is quite evident.

355 mL bottle. Disappointed with this one. There is an initial hit of bitterness, citrus and caramel in the flavour, but then . . . nothing. The flavour disappears, never to return. The bitterness lingers, but it’s awful lonely.

Deep copper, darker than a lot of IPAs. Not crazy about the aroma, harsh. Very sweet up front. Not as hoppy as I expected.

Draught at Euston Tap, London on 16 Dec 2012. Poured a hazy amber, with a dense off-white head. Aroma of sweet malts, caramel and some underlying bitter pine-like hops. Spicy hop flavours, with orange peal and apricot and grapefruit. Finish was toffee, bitter resin and big marmalade.

Pours a med amber, thin off white head. Aroma is big booze, malt, sugar, resiny hop, dark caramel, toffee. Flavor is huge malt, sugar, booze... Big body, gooey. Not really my bag
