COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "the Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops, they’re just not fast enough. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us). 98 IBU's

35.5cl bottle. Cloudy golden orange colour with a small off-white head. Citrus, pine, caramel and malt in the aroma. Average carbonation and medium body. Taste is balanced with malty notes and hoppy notes. The alcohol is really not noticed. Overall, a very good beer.

Bottle picked up at The Bottle shop and drunk at home. As ’Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree IPA’, no date, ABV or other details, ’ages well’. Dark murky brick red, opaque, small foamy off-white head. Aroma is sweet caramelised sugars, light floral, rose, rhubarb, stewed fruits. Body is smooth, soft carbonation. Taste is sweet dense caramel, tangy rhubarb, syrup, touch of booze, honey, American strong ale, spice, sherry notes. Just way too sweet for me. Not a DIPA. It’s on the strong ale / barley wine side of the spectrum. Big and bold. A sugar and alcohol bomb. Fine, but just not my type of thing.

Smells super sweet and good very hard to place the smell though, like sweet grapefruit or peaches, John says red 40, very cloudy and cool looking...quite flavorful on front end..medium light bitterness on finish....mellows with time

Pours red with a medium and lingering white head. A rather powerful aroma consists of caramel, pine, grapefruit, some alcohol, and some sugar. The taste is sweet and very bitter. Its heavy in pine, grapefruit, and resin, balanced with a strong alcohol flavor, and hints of mango, and peach. Aftertaste is a short yet sharp alcoholic pine. This is full bodied, has a thick, sticky texture, and has plenty of carbonation. The potency of this one doesn’t hide. Its strong. A solid offering.

12oz bottle - given as a gift and was told it has been aged (why?). It pours a murky/cloudy tan like swamp water and a thin off white head. Very malty aroma with a background of piney hops. I think aging took out most of the huge hoppy punch and left the malty backbone intact. It's still good but not what it's supposed to be.

Bottle. Poured cloudy amber with thick off-white head. Aroma of resin, hops and caramel. Taste is hoppy, sweet, caramel, pine and some grapefruit. Full bodied, soft carbonation, alcohol warmth in the long bitter finish.

Aroma is pine, citrus and slight sweetness. The flavor is grapefruit, extremely thick malts/honey/syrupy body, spices, fruit, slight sweetness, malts and a mix of heat/alcohol and creeping bitterness in the finish.

Color of an old penny, small off white head. Aroma of piney hops and malt. Moderate sweetness, bold hops and a nice malt backbone. Really nice beer!

I expected this to be overwhelmingly hoppy. It was the opposite. Excellent balance, with a lean towards malty smoothness. All 3 guys at table got it and loved it. At 12% ABV it will bring a buzz, but it creeps slowly. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
