4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Goodgrief (1720) - Middletown, Delaware, USA - OCT 21, 2012On tap at Pinocchio’s. This is the second variation of Crooked Tree I’ve had...but never had the base version. Both were excellent. Pour that looked like iced tea...very little head, cloudy...could have really passed for iced tea. Big hoppy nose. Huge cascade flavor, with some mild teabag notes. Very bitter. Worth seeking out.

12oz bottle from Downer Wine and Spirits. Pours a hazy, deep amber color with a thin white head. Aroma is hoppy, citrus, grapefruit. Medium on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, bready, some bitter citrus hops, with a light bitter finish. A nice cascade single hop IPA.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 ddemmingjr (591) - Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA - MAY 15, 2013
Bottle: pours hazy burnt orange, thin off white head that fades quickly. Nose is earthy, melon, caramel malts and baked bread. Nice full palate with mild bitterness and drying on the finish. Caramel/crystal malt sweetness is evident at the onset but an herbal, earthy bite resonates on the finish. Not a fruity IPA by any means but plenty good for showcasing Cascade. Straightforward.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 auerbrau (2946) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - MAY 14, 2013
12oz Bottle. Thanks so much, Sean! Cinnamon and grapefruit cascade through the nostrils, touching on candied orange a nip of pine alcohol. Flavors take a little while to develop, but the Dark Horse water and yeast kick in, complementing the beeswax candles, dried orange, and Jack pine of this beer. Interesting, to see the beef of Crooked Tree stripped away and replaced with an elegant, singular varietal. I want a little more bristle and bustle. Somehow this is thin and overly reminiscent of heavy filtered and bottled Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Overall, this is clean, straightforward, and very enjoyable IPA.
