Shared bottle at a local tasting. Black body with a light brown rim. Peat, bacon and sour tobacco pipe on the nose. Roasted malts and coffee flavors stand out. Full bodied and an oily texture.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Opaque, near black with a thin mocha colored head and very good lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, charcoal and leather. Taste of charred wood, burnt coffee, roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla. Medium body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Smokey oats and chocolate coffee aroma. It is black and beautiful. Taste of sweet malt and soy, like the good jerky you get in the countryside. Not profoundly smokey like a smoked lager, instead it is a complimentary element. Should be reclassed as sweet stout. Thick and oily. Another winner for Dark Horse.

Bottle from Ölbutikken. Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma has mostly chocolate and heavily roasted malt, some faint smoke and alcohol. Taste is as as above and with some coffee as well. Smoke is mostly revealed when taking really small sips. After taste is dry and bitter with slight heat. Medium thick mouth feel, carbonation medium on the verge to low. A nice stout but I’m missing out on all the smoke, had hoped for more.

Bottle @ 2nd tuesday tasting. Pours pitch black with a small light brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, smoke, some coffee and chocolate. Taste has more chocolate than the aroma with some smoke, roasted malts and coffee. Nice lingering aftertaste of coffee and chocolate. Medium to full body with a nice smooth texture. Medium carbo. Lovely brew.

Strong stout. More alcoholic than expected. Creamy with no head. A must for stout fans.

Bottle at the May De Molen monthly tasting. Poured a dark mahogany colour with a round, glass hugging tan head. The aroma is roasted buttery malt with a little smoke. The flavour is medium bitter, with some nicely controlled liquorice bitterness. There is coffee and chocolate in there too and a nice smooth milky palate. It’s very much like a milk stout. The smokiness is there, but its not as prominent as I expected which is fine by me.

The aroma is smoke, chocolate. The appearance is deep black, small light brown head. The flavor is smoke, chocolate, coffee. The finish is roast, pine needles. Medium to medium/thick in body. Not great, but enjoyable.
