4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Good god do I love the pour of a Dark Horse stout. Everyone I’ve emptied out of the bottle has been ink black, ink. Thin chestnut brown head. The nose is so nice, smoked chocolate, coffee, normal chocolate, sweet, no alcohol, molasses, brown sugar. The flavor is.....roasty, bittersweet bakers chocolate, very very mild smoked character, coffee. I’d count off half a point for the mouthfeel, wish it had been fuller. Nice carbonation though. Finishes roasty with coffee.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A black pour with a dark tan head. Whoah. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee. Flavor has more roasted goodness, some chocolate, caramel, and wood shows through as well. Not quite as smokey as expected, but the stout hanging out here is very nice. Finishes mildly bitter.

Bottle. My second favorite of the series. Pours a dark brown black body with a dark tan head. Aroma is smoky malt, peat, woodiness, and some chocolate and sweet malt. Comes together great in the flavor. Great beer.

Smoke base to the flavor with dark roasted malt, chocolate, a little alc with hops. Medium body with a little syrupiness. A nice stout with a great balance of smoke thrown in.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A black appearance with a tan head. The aroma contains some coffee, chocolate, and a decent amount of smoke. The flavor is rather bitter with loads of coffee and chocolate. The smoke is there but not over the top either. Overall this was a nice beer!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
In short: A syrupy extra-roasted stout. More Burnt than Smoked. Decent beer but slightly below average for the style.
How: Bottle at Flossmoor on Pre-Dark-Lord-Day party 2008. Unknown generous soul, thanks a lot whoever you are.
The look: Black body with a small tan head
In long: Not much real smoke in this one. More like charcoal on the nose and ashes in the taste. Body is very soft and so is the carbonation. Some alcohol presence (bad for a 8% stout) and the beer is syrupy like a 12% stout. Basic extra-roasted malts with some chocolate flavour. Overall pretty dry despite the syrupy body. Very limited fruitiness. Dark Horse Foregettable Smoked Stout.
