Dickinsonbeer (2457), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Apr 29, 2008 Thanks to hophead75 for sharing. Pours a deep charcoal black- almsot opaque just like thier other stouts- head is thin. Aroma is toasty- tons of chocolate malt and the smoke is noticed but not intense. Flavor has a bit more smoke, but the chocolate malts dominate- has some licorice, and almost an oily feel and a smooth finish. Great stout as expected from DH.
pepsican (621), coralville, Iowa, USA Jun 18, 2008 A black pour with a dark tan head. Whoah. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee. Flavor has more roasted goodness, some chocolate, caramel, and wood shows through as well. Not quite as smokey as expected, but the stout hanging out here is very nice. Finishes mildly bitter. Rciesla (674), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jun 18, 2008 Bottle. My second favorite of the series. Pours a dark brown black body with a dark tan head. Aroma is smoky malt, peat, woodiness, and some chocolate and sweet malt. Comes together great in the flavor. Great beer. Aroma – Great light smokiness in the aroma with lots of dark malts.
Appearance – Black in color, thin head and clear if you can see through black.
Flavor – This was a light smoked stout with a hint of peat and smokiness with a huge stout behind to hold up your fork. Great stuff.
Palate – Great Mouthfeel, crisp Smokey texture with a dry finish.
Overall – What a wonderful beer. This was a huge stout with a light peaty smoky flavor that made this a great beer. WOW Can I have more please with my dinner be sure to drink with a fork.
