4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 28, 2013 12 oz bottle from trade with mikem409. Thanks. Pours an opaque black color with a small tan head that quickly fades to a fine ring. The aroma is a bit subdued with blackened barley, coffee, anise and chocolate. The flavor features unsweetened dark bitter chocolate, coffee, fireplace ashes and earthy hops. The palate is full and just a bit oily with soft carbonation. Finishes long with lingering roasted barley flavors. Overall: More of a roasty stout than a smoked stout, notable for its lack of any sweet flavors, but still quite enjoyable.
Re-rate on 4-28. Bottle from Rebekah. Thanks. Most comments from first bottle are valid, but this bottle has a better nose. I get chocolates, vanilla, and a distinct sweet nuttiness. Raising my score from 3.8 to 4.0 for the nose.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Sensoric. Pitch black with small, light brown head. Poor lacing and head retention. Aroma of roasted malts combined with light to medium amoked notes (bacon). You can find here some dark fruits aromas - rasins, Taste is semi-sweet to semi-dry, but in the end definetely semi-dry with nice, dark chocolate bitterness. In overall once again above average stout from Dark Horse, this time with hints of some smoked notes.

Bottle, 0.355l. Pours pitch black wit thin creamy brown head and sparkling appearance. Aroma of roasted malt, smoke, leather, meat and licorice. Taste starts with rich roasted and smoked malt, follows by sweet chocolate, mild licorice and light alcohol note mouthfeel is warming and spicy, while finish is mild bitter. Full body, creamy texture and lively lingering carbonation. A bit too sweet and not enough distinct smoke in the taste...
