Had this at EBF. I do not rate beers from beerfest, but it was all too obvious what this beer is.....It is dark and color and described as a porter aged in maple barrels then left to sour....the result? The epitome of biting into a green apple..thats it...just a sour green apple.

This poured a medium to darker brown color with a tan head. Aroma was mainly porter, light maple, some roasted malts, and light acidic notes. Flavor was very interesting. moderately tart, some sour apple, caramel and maple, some chocolate and light smoked malts. Very intersting mistake!

Shared at the Mikes. Brown pour with bright red highlights. Nose is chocolate and malt with tart hints. Most distinct movement of any beer I can easily remember. Big sharp roast to sweet tart pear to distinct Hershey chocolate syrup to tart funkiness. Like changing channels on the TV. great beer from an infection.

The beer is nearly flat and very dark brown in color. Intense vinegar aroma right away. There’s a little bit of acetone as well as a fair amount of booze. A slight sweetness of maple syrup and dark fruit (raisin, grape, and cherry). The acetone is nowhere near as noticeable on the palate, but the vinegar certainly is. A very tart combination of red wine and balsamic vinegars. Quite a bit of dark fruit flavor on the nose, some wood, and a bit of maple syrup.

Pours dark brown unclear with no head and no carbonation. The aroma smells just like a fresh sliced Granny Smith apple and ends in the nose with a tart ending. The flavor is similar, starting off with the Granny Smith juicy apples and then a ton of tart flavor on a completely non carbonated body.

A nice sample at the beginning of Night of the Barrels (EBF). Mahogany with a tan head. Apple, maple, bit of rootbeer, some roasted malts, plum, oak, more tart then sour but still some sourness and a bit of funk present. Moderate carbonation and body, tart with some sweetness from the maple syrup and bit of vanilla. Unfortunately everything did not seem to blend well together - the maple, high alcohol content and sourness was odd. Maybe my palate hadn’t been suitably broken in (think this was my first pour of the night) and it probably didn’t help that it was very different from what I was expecting but still - just didn’t do it for me.

Pouring at the Night of the Barrels on the Friday night of EBF 2012. Pours a clear dark brown to ruby color with a thin beige head. Floral and sweet dark fruit on the nose, a bit of funky acid. Sweet and malty, tart, light alcohol and sweet acid. Toast, sweet funky fruit, malty acid and toast.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a hazy dark brown color with minimal fizzy brown head with virtulally no lacing but did have legs. Moderate to heavy sour apple, yeast and brazilnut aroma. Medium to full body and a dry sticky texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy tart sour flavor with a medium to heavy tart sour finish of moderate to long duration. This is a complex interesting beer.

Wow, thanks dean!! Dark pour, not much of a head. Aroma of red wine, bourbon, funky mushrooms, old grass clippings. Flavor is fruity, oak, vinegar...badass!!!!!

750ml bottle thanks to tooch... Pours a deep shade of mahogoney, mostly opaque almost akin to a stout with less intense edges, and topped with a thin wispy light beige head... Aroma is full on pear and apple brandy and bourbon, boozy for sure with a medium sour hint creeping through amdst it all... Flavors are spot on to that if the aroma with a big apple bourbon base. Somewhat sweet but enough sour to even things. Bourbon and fruit forward with a medium to full bodied experience with a soft level of carbonation. Nice enough.
