RKOhio (9) - Ohio, USA - SEP 27, 2012 does not count
Overall this is a strange beer. Pours a rusty brown color with an off-white head. Aroma of musty lager yeast, raspberry, and crackers. Taste is quite sweet with plenty of iced tea character, prune, and a crackery finish. A little bit of a mineral quality slides in and provides some dryness. Pour carefully, as I found a lot of sediment in several (but not all) bottles.

Pours deep hazy amber into a Sam glass. Pancake head with excellent retention recedes to coat surface. Sweet candy corn aromas. Sweet candy corn upfront turning to earthy, bitter pith in the lasting finish.

12oz bottle in a stem glass. Pours copper with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of toasted and caramel malts, plus a good amount of bitter hops. Flavor the same, with some dough. Average texture. A decent beer.

Bottle. Woody malt and alcohol aroma. Cloudy orange-brown with moderate head. Lightly sweet woody malt and alcohol flavor. Not your typical Koelsch.

jcnielsen (2190) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - SEP 14, 2012
Bottle. Sampled with adnielsen at Brad’s house in Minneapolis, MN. Pours a hazy amber color with white head. Darker malty flavors that you don’t expect from a kolsch.

adnielsen (9285) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - SEP 14, 2012
Bottle @ Brad’s house Minneapolis. Pours a hazy, dark orange appearance with a cream colored head. Spicy, grainy, oaty, chex mix, a touch fruity aroma. Tangy, grainy malty, cereal, quite spicy, light blood orange appearance. This wasn’t all that bad but everything about it didn’t seem like a Kolsch.

Bottle. Pours a murky orange-brown color with a very thin off white head. Aroma: Cider, caramel, and toast. Taste: Heavy malt flavors, with tones of caramel, raisin. Bitter, earthy finish. Slick texture with lively carbonation. Different, but not sure this combination works.

Growler fill from Whole Foods Short Pump. A "Polish" Kolsch? I suspect, based on how so not a Kolsch this is that the name may be some sort of joke. So let’s entirely ignore the claimed style since this isn’t BJCP after all. Light to medium hazy amber. Aroma is light caramel and faint butter. Flavor is light caramel, some spicy bittering hops, and then a can of creamed corn. I’m calling DMS here, and I usually am not even that sensitive to the stuff. Yikes. Not unpleasant, ultimately, but not that great a beer either. Too bad.

rumproasts (2951) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - SEP 4, 2012
bottle. light brown with small head. very dark for a kolsch with substantial malt and not as much hop crispness in the finish.

Guerde (1175) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - AUG 30, 2012
(bottle with a smiling Mel Brooks on the label) Pours a rusty brown color with an off-white head. Aroma of musty lager yeast, light raspberry, and crackers. Taste is quite sweet with plenty of iced tea character, prune, and a crackery finish. A little bit of a mineral quality slides in and provides some dryness. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is fairly sprightly. Overall this is somewhat of a strange beer, but it’s oddly drinkable.
