UPDATED: FEB 28, 2010 Just a solid brown ale, nowhere near as nutty as one might predict. Malty (fresh baked bread, grainy) and subtly smoky, foresty (a tiny touch of pine) with a nice moderate nut flavor (here seen as a little bit of acidic sweetness). Delish. Dang, do I love Dark Horse.

Caramel and toffee nose with some nuts and sweet sugars. The taste is not as sweet as expected, but not surprising considering simple sugars ferment so well. There is a decent amount of nuts and toffee, a bit of cola. Interesting.

Had on draft at the brewery for the crawfish boil. A-pours a dirty dark brown liquid with a tight khaki colored head. S-the nose is light, nutty roasted malts with hints of herbal ester in the back. T-the taste is more full, lots of nutty flavors up front, roasted bread rolls, notes of dough, lightly roasted malt, faint herbal hop in the back. M-smooth, creamy, syrupy body, soft on the tongue, moderate to light carbonation balancing nicely on this medium bodied beer. D-nice drink, lots of malt flavors with enough sweetness to balance the big roasted bready flavors, also has an interesting nutty component to it that really makes it tasty.

Pouring at session one of EBF in Boston. Pours a hazy orange brown with a thin beige head. Faint donut and cake flour. Malty and nutty. Light cocoa. Nothing amazing, especially not after having a few of their numbered stouts which blew me away.
