Poured from a 750 ml corked and caged bottle thanks to unclerudy. Pours a dark brown to black with a khaki colored head of thin foam. Not much in the way of carbonation, unfortunately. Aroma is like stale coffee grounds. Taste reminds me of strong coffee, but it must be the way rye and chocolate are working together. Meduim to full mouthfeel with not much spritz. A little more carbonation could do wonders for this beer.

Bottled. Sample size around 10cl, old note. Aroma has chocolate, dried fruits, hint of oak/bourbon. Dark coloured, not much head. The taste was light sweet, light bitter with this molasses/rye/dried fruitiness thingy goin on, some chocolate, just a touch of bourbon/oak/vanilla. Medium bodied. Nice.

Tasted on 8/31/13 from a bottle. Pours nearly black with a very thin tan head that leaves a super thin collar. The nose is dark chocolate with some spicy rye malt, but very subdued, with nothing really jumping out of the glass. The flavor is, once again, pretty light, having to search to taste the milk chocolate and rye malt. The body is full with light carbonation and a long bitter and light rye finish.

Bottle shared by Mike at his place. Dark chocolate pour. Flavor has moderate levels of cocoa, spicy/tangy chipotle notes, and burnt caramel. Slightly roasty with a nice spiciness to it.

Bottle 35 of 396, many thanks to sleestak (Jeff R) for this!

Oh, I had issues with cork too, broke numerous times trying to get it out of the bottle. ... Poured in my GI BCS snifter, deep brown, near opaque with an initial good beige frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of roast, toffee, cocoa, walnuts, and leathery earthy yeast esters. The taste is moderately sweet but the rye really punches through and provides a lovely counterpoint. Quite roasted and ashy along with some oak like tannins. Not much hop character which is my only major complaint. The mouth feel is a tad thin (but then it is a porter so not as big of an issue), ashy and dry, slightly boozy. Overall I like this but could see it being even more with the addition of more chocolate malt and perhaps some dark fruits notes.

Rating #3000. OK, rating entry #3000, but nonetheless...draft at the Dark Horse 4 Elf Party, December 2012. Deep opaque brown-black body, cream to light tan head. Bitter, charred nose, with burnt sugars and hints of spice, reminiscent of their Black Bier. Very dry body with abundant roast and charred sugars. Robust with a long, bitter finish. Excellent.

Bottle. This beer isnít bad but the name sucks and it took me 45 minutes to open. Is it my fault I didnít have a corkscrew handy? Probably not. I ended up jamming a nice into the cork (once it broke off) and cutting it out, but then it fell into the beer and I had to sort out how to drink the beer without consuming too much cork. So I poured it into a glass and then ran the beer in the glass into another glass through a strainer, repeated, then drank it. Also, it wasnít THAT good. I was pretty pissed so I probably am rating this too lowly, donít let it stop you from wasting 3/4 of an hour on opening a fucking beer. Spilled some on my shirt, it was dark.

Sampled at a bottleshare. 750ml, #217 of 396. Another awful Dark Horse label. Black color. Thin brown head. Little loose dots of lace. Bigger body. Smooth, light carbonation. Nice roasty malt flavor. Light vanilla, little wood, but influence from the bourbon is subtle. Sweet taste, light alcohol in the finish. Nice imperial porter.
