3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler shared by b3shine. Pours black with a large fluffy khaki colored head. The aroma had cocoa and roast, caramel, raisins and some heat. This is supposed to be a barley wine, but so far it presents more like an imperial stout. The flavor has more roasted malts, chocolate and caramel. Lighter notes of raisins, ash with bitterness at the finish. Although there was some alcohol in the nose, I thought this was fairly smooth and hid the alcohol well in the flavor. An interesting beer Iím glad to have tried.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap: deep, murky brown (almost black) body, completely muddled & fully opaque with a slowly rising, tan head that foams up for a good amount of time. Tiny bubbled with great retention. Aroma is huge, robust, powerful... Malty heaven with sticky sweet caramel, warm booze, dark figs, prunes, juicy raisins, bitter molasses, & some finishing brown sugar notes. Smells sweet as hell. Taste is very sweet as well; molasses, burnt brown sugar, syrup, prunes, light cocoa nibs & cocoa dust. Vanilla & brown sugar flavors grow with time, creating an almost creme brulee-like aftertaste. Mouth coating, thick, warm & somewhat boozy finish. Very tasty beer, must be enjoyed in small doses to avoid cavities.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Opaque dark brown, almost black, with thin mocha lacing. Moderately boozy aroma filled with raisins, figs, caramel, plums, and hints of soy sauce. Muted bittersweet taste. Viscous, smooth, and creamy but the carbonation is a bit too lively for this style. Full-bodied and pleasantly boozy despite the high alcohol percentage.

Bottle sampled at a tasting. From notes. Boozy with dark fermented fruits, caramel and a hint of something earthy. Very awesome.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at the Dark Horse 4 Elf Party, December 2012. Murky, inky dark brown body, thin, tight ochre head. Sweet nose; incredibly sweet, cloying body with molasses, soy, and honey, also some bitter citrusy hops. Lots of sugar, lots of alcohol, with alcohol heat in the finish but overall subdued by soft, flabby sweetness.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
3 oz pour from June tasting at Dougís. Aromas are dark fruit, raspberry syrup, caramel, booze, cola, burnt sugar, and toffee. Taste is syrupy sweet. Very fruity and candy-like. The aromas blend together pretty well and itís surprising smooth for such a huge abv. A bit too syrupy sweet but really like the flavors.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma is intense, full of dark fruits, caramel, booze and candied sugar. Flavour is insanely rich and sweet, full of dark fruits, heaps of caramel, and cloying sweetness. Itís not that boozy considering itís 17.5%, yet the sweetness is overbearingly cloying. Way too sweet for me. The flavours are nice, but itís a bit too harsh. Syrupy, viscous palate that brings out the sweetness even more. Incredibly hard to drink - couldnít finish the bottle.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler shared by Sarro and crew who very graciously hosted us during the Hill Farmstead 3rd anniversary snowstorm. Flat black/brown pour. Aroma of coke, lots of cocoa, plums, alcohol, dark fruits, raisins, lots of alcohol. Taste is chocolatey, very fruity, boozy but not excessively so, I usually donít much enjoy these 15%+ beers but this one was alright, enough stuff going on here to keep me interested. Palate is heavy, carbonation is low. Quite port like.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2012 Batch Aroma is very rich and decadent with lots of dark toffee and very dark caramel. Moderate chocolate and roast note. Light smoked meat aroma with moderately strong dark fruit notes. Fruit includes dark cherry, plum, and prune. Not sure how I feel about the dark fruit and smoked meat mix. Pours dark brown with some light brown and ruby highlights on the edges. Only a very faint tan head that quickly recedes. Flavor is similar to the aroma. Very sweet upfront with some roast, not sure how I feel about the blend. The sweetness is dark caramel and toffee. Light astringency with moderate bitterness. Sweet dark fruit notes of plum, black cherry, prune and light raisin. Finish has a fruity chocolate character to it. Slight vinous quality. Mouthfeel is full bodied with low carbonation. Medium low astringency with moderate alcohol warmth. A bit sticky sweet. Overall an alright beer, but Iím not sure how I feel about the way the the fruit esters mix with the roast. The roast really does have more of a smoked meat character than a straight smoke and roast character. Gets a bit better as it warms. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draft at brewery Pre-release summer 12'. One of the biggest beers I've tried. Massive sweetness, dried fruits, toffee and caramel. Would love to try the BB version because this one almost has those qualities already.
