Pour is orange/yellow with a medium white head. Aroma of grapefruit juice, light pine resin, citrus peel, and mild bitterness. Flavor is pine oil, light citrus, faint hops, and slight caramel sweetness. Very mild for the ABV, somewhat lacking.

Pours a cloudy copper-yellow, with thick hard. Aroma is marked by a fairly strong citrus presence, along with piney hops. Flavor is bitter, astringent, citrusy, with a fair amount of underlying sweetness. This might be my favorite of their single-hop series. Very good.

Pailhead (4770) - Brownstown, Michigan, USA - AUG 26, 2014
Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate citrus, fruit, faint caramel, and toasty notes. It pours a dark transparent amber with a three finger orange tinted off-white head that eventually fades to a thick film. There is a good amount of soapy lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate citrus, light fruit, and faint caramel. The finish has light-moderate pine, light toasty notes, and a hint of lemon peel. Itís light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, hazy dark orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, some pine, grass, bread, hints of soap, some spice. Taste is a mix of grass, bread, soap, some cardboard, hints of grain, touch of yeasty notes, finishing fairly bitter, dry.

On tap at the abbey. Loses a lot of points because i had it after a beast of an ipa, this wasnt bad but didnt have the hops to stand up.

Probably my favorite of the DH singles...nice pine resin over orange flavors and finishes with a nice bitter bite.

Bottle. Amber-orange pour with a small head that fades to a messy ring. Leaves good lacing. Aromas are orange juice, caramel, melon, and light tropical fruit. Tastes like juicy oranges mostly. Big caramel malt backbone. Mild bitterness in the finish. Pretty nice IPA. Seems odd but Iíve enjoyed all the single hop Crooked Trees more than the regular one.

Traffic light yellow; puffy white head. Good carbonation. Aroma is piney hops, very oily. Itís a little old actually, but it still holds up. There is rye bread and carraway seeds. The flavor is more of those pine-needle hops, but also a sweet, crisp malt backbone, which balances nicely. The pine manifests itself as a kind of mint on the back end. Earthy as it warms up. Feels smooth. This is a beer with a lot of hop character, but has enough balance that it ages gracefully.
