Number one in a series of five stouts produced for the fall and winter seasons. This beer is full bodied with hints of chocolate, roasted barley, coffee flavors and a nice creamy head.

Rated 3/20/13. 12 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip. A: Pours a black color; the pour itself looks quite dark and viscous. The head is a one finger light tan shade. It fades relatively quickly, leaving only minute lacing on the glass. S: I definitely get a decent amount of oats on the nose, backed by a ton of roasted barley. Hints of chocolate, vanilla, and licorice are also present. Good, if muted. T: There’s a mild smoked quality to the opening flavors that I find intriguing. Afterwards, it develops a dominant note of licorice with tones of coffee and vanilla on the finish. Moderately enjoyable, but the flavors could use more singular distinctness; they all seem to blend together. M: This one is surprisingly heavy on the palate, backed by a good silky smoothness and tons of lingering flavor. If someone called this an imperial stout, I wouldn’t think twice either way. Despite the score, I really love the texture here - but the problem is, it doesn’t match up with the mellow flavors particularly well, so I can’t give a great score here. O: Nothing amazing, but it’s a solid offering. It kind of reminds me of a mediocre imperial stout, and that’s actually a compliment in this case.

Black, medium brown head. Roasty oats, dark caramel and some coffee on the nose. Medium bodied, roasty bitter with sweet cocoa notes. Finishes bitter and warming. Great!

Czarne, mętne piwo z ciemnobeżową, obfitą i puszystą pianą oraz przyjemnym, czekoladowym, lekko przypalanym aromatem. W smaku gęste i intensywne, wyraziście wytrawne, mocno palone i kawowe.

Poured deep dark brown with a disappearing beige head. Aroma of milk chocolate, berries and soft roast malt. Medium body, quite smooth, flavour as the aroma, coffee grinds, fudge. Dry, bittersweet finish.

Draft @ Hoppy Loft.

Barwa czarna, nieprzejrzysta. W aromacie czekolada, kawa latte, trufle, prażone ziarno.
