Bottle at Scopey’s Pre-CBC tune-up. The beer pours deep brown color with no head. The nose is simple brown sugar with hints of forest fruits and lightly roasted grains. The taste is chewy strawberry malts, some dark-roasted coffee beans. Full coffee flavors dominate the taste. The finish is slightly hot and vinous. The body’s medium/full, the carbonation is light. Overall, quite nice, pleasing.

Scopey (1659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2012
Bottle at my Pre-CBC Tune-Up Tasting, thanks to deeblo. It pours very dark brown, with a thin tan head. The nose is chocolate, touch of malt vinegar, soy sauce, cinnamon and roasted malt. The taste is roasted malt, charcoal, caramel, varnish, toast, coffee and alcohol warmth, with a dry, roasty finish. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. A flavoursome and well balanced beer.

Pours a black colour with a beautiful dark brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and some pepper. Flavour of roasted malts, coffee, pepper and oat. Medium bodied, oily mouthfeel and a dry, malty, coffee finish. Tasty!

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark black pour with dark tan head, aroma brings dark chocolate, coffee, toffee and caramel notes, touch of nice dark fruits, nice sweet hershey notes, hints of nice espresso and mocha, this smells great. Taste is nice mix of chocolate, milk and dark, espresso bean notes, hints of roast, some slight mineral notes but not bad, finishing fairly sweet, roast dries it out well. Nice brew.

Smells chocolatey. Pours thick and black with beautiful dark brown head. Leaves a ton of sediment behind in the bottle. Minimal fizz. Oily, burnt, bitter. My first dark horse. Not bad.

my fav style - oatmeal stout! been wanting to try this one - thanks to emeinz for the trade - super dark pour with dirty beige head. aroma to me was alcohol with slight vanilla. mouthfeel was perfect - smooth and velvety. taste was roasted stuff; slightes of vanilla maybe lactic - did I mention smooth; long lasting roasted flavor...niiiice.

Originally reviewed: 1/6/10. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a very thick, deep black. This is the darkest standard stout I have seen in awhile. Creamy mocha head rests on top. Retains fairly well, but leaves no lace whatsoever. Big roasted scents come out of this right away, but then they dissipate, and it’s a struggle to get much in the nose on this. Some mild cocoa tones mixed in, but faint. Like all oatmeal stouts, the body on this is creamy and smooth. Carbonation level is hidden well as this is just a velvety beer. Alcohol presence gives a good bit of body on top. Good mellow flavors come out with oats, chocolate, and dark bitter coffee aftertaste. This is a good stout right here. It’s a little on the heavy side, so I wouldn’t have many at a time, but it’s a good treat when I do.

Bottle - pours black with a light brown head that dissipates fairly quickly. Not much lacing on this one. Has a nice roasted coffee aroma and flavor to it and a thin but creamy mouthfeel.
