COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a true dopplebock and Dark Horse Brewing’s only publicly distributed lager. It was so normal that we couldn’t stand it so we made it into a coffee dopplebock. Ha, take that Germany, with your Reinheitsgebot purity law! Anyway, we use fair trade organic coffee from our friends at The Ugly Mug Cafe in Ypsilanti, MI We did a label contest and opened it up to the public for this beer. We had so many awesome entries that we couldn’t just pick one winner so we have 2 labels for this beer. We stagger the bottles in the six packs but with no order in mind.

Draft at Tattoed Mom. Big coffee flavor but doesn’t look as dark as it tastes. Poured a cloudy full amber, not black. Whatever head there was disappeared entirely by the time I got it. Interesting, but mostly one note.

Little to no head. Coffee aroma, obviously. I'm used to this flavor in a stout so this is less bitter than I'm used to. Still good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

[4610-20120708] 12floz bottle. Dry wasabi pea grains aroma has a light coffee waft. Hazy, dark amber brown body with a quick creamy off-white head. Spiced toasted grains flavour has a light fruit red pepper malt aftertaste. Medium body. Interesting, not really getting a lot of coffee. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4

bottle. claims 7.0% light brown with a small, stable, creamy beige head. fresh coffee aroma. an odd style to add coffee if you ask me, but whatever. its strong coffee flavor. actually works. background maltiness and caramel with loads of fresh medium roast coffee beans. must try for coffee fans, however, they should probably validate their dopplebock with a clean version.

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is dark amber. Aroma and taste are rich coffee, vegetables, caramel, malt and hops.

Pours dark brown with reddish hue and a small head. Aroma is coffe and pepper spice. Interesting combo. Lots of coffee up front with light fruit flavor and spice on the finish. Lingering coffee flavor. Prickly carbonation, but heavier body than expected (medium mouthfeel). Nice changeup, though the spice is a bit strange with the coffee. Overall a decent brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared with Shaun.Very pronounced coffee aromas and flavour from the outset.Poured a dark copper colour with minimal light tan head.Sweet malt too, both on the nose and in the taste.Flaked chocolate in the taste as well making a tasty beer we would try again (albeit only 1 per session).

At Khyber Pass in Philly. This just didn’t work for me. The earthiness of the coffee just didn’t appeal in the least. Hazy amber with nice off-white head. Weird herbal nose with the raw coffee bean aroma. I enjoy a good Dopplebock to kick back with but this isn’t in the ball park.

12 ounce bottle, just like the photo. The coffee really jumps out at you from this one. I liked it a lot. There’s a malted sweetness too and carries on for a long time. Dark amber color, thin layer of head, medium bodied. Strong coffee taste that works well alongside a lager-flavor backbone. Abv is politely tucked away from the flavor. This is one of my favorites from Dark Horse, which is surprising given I’m typically opposed to dopplebocks.
