COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a true dopplebock and Dark Horse Brewing’s only publicly distributed lager. It was so normal that we couldn’t stand it so we made it into a coffee dopplebock. Ha, take that Germany, with your Reinheitsgebot purity law! Anyway, we use fair trade organic coffee from our friends at The Ugly Mug Cafe in Ypsilanti, MI We did a label contest and opened it up to the public for this beer. We had so many awesome entries that we couldn’t just pick one winner so we have 2 labels for this beer. We stagger the bottles in the six packs but with no order in mind.

Pours deep amber, almost red, with a minimal head, which is surprising because this beer is very carbonated. Strong coffee aroma and light, carbonated, refreshing palate. Bitter at the end. Overall a good Fall beer.

Coffee, roast, and some pipe tobacco in the aroma. Flavor is sweet with coffee and chocolate. Bittersweet coffee and a little alcohol in a very dry finish. Very nice effort.

Bottle. Copper pour with a small ring of foam on the surface. Strong coffee notes in the aroma. Coffee is dominant in the aroma. There’s maybe some toasted malt and caramel in there but they are far in the background. Taste is strong coffee, caramel, chocolate covered coffee beans, toasted malt and coffee cake. Body is medium with a strong bubbly carbonation. Ends with more coffee cake, chocolate covered coffee beans, light caramel and toasted malt. Nice!

Cloudy brown body with a nice beige head. Aroma is all coffee - but somehow a bit askew. Full creamy palate. Flavor is coffee with a little bit of pepper, and a bitter coffee aftertaste. Interesting beer, but not something I’d seek out again.

thought for sure I had rated this before, but passed on it over and over and turns out that I never rated it. 12oz bottle - pours brown with tan head and good lacing. Nose is coffee grounds. Flavor adds a malty backbone, but the coffee really dominates this beer - not brewed coffee, just coffee grounds. If you love booze and coffee grounds: buy the shit out of this beer. cool label: reminds me of a Slayer album cover (Reign in Blood). Coffee bitterness. OK, so now I’m listening to Raining Blood. Bass level 1 and Treble 5 - thanks Steve Albini!
