COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a true dopplebock and Dark Horse Brewing’s only publicly distributed lager. It was so normal that we couldn’t stand it so we made it into a coffee dopplebock. Ha, take that Germany, with your Reinheitsgebot purity law! Anyway, we use fair trade organic coffee from our friends at The Ugly Mug Cafe in Ypsilanti, MI We did a label contest and opened it up to the public for this beer. We had so many awesome entries that we couldn’t just pick one winner so we have 2 labels for this beer. We stagger the bottles in the six packs but with no order in mind.

thought for sure I had rated this before, but passed on it over and over and turns out that I never rated it. 12oz bottle - pours brown with tan head and good lacing. Nose is coffee grounds. Flavor adds a malty backbone, but the coffee really dominates this beer - not brewed coffee, just coffee grounds. If you love booze and coffee grounds: buy the shit out of this beer. cool label: reminds me of a Slayer album cover (Reign in Blood). Coffee bitterness. OK, so now I’m listening to Raining Blood. Bass level 1 and Treble 5 - thanks Steve Albini!

Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Very murky, nearly opaque, orangey dark brown with a khaki head and fair lacing. Aroma of fresh sweet roasted coffee, hot chocolate, caramel and grain. Taste of sweet chocolate, top quality coffee, hazelnuts, caramel, toffee and bread. Medium/light body and medium/high carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours brown with a small tan head. The nose is intense coffee, caramel, cocoa and a light peppery note. The taste is medium sweet light bitter at first and goes high sweet to medium bitter. The texture is crisp and clean, body is light medium and finish is long. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Via trade with Gunson. Nice aroma of smooth coffee, caramel. The appearance is opaque red/brown, off-white head. The flavor is coffee, caramel, brown sugar. The finish is coffee, light noble and pine hops. Medium/thick in body. Nice.

Backlog rating 1-01-2009 (Bottle) When poured, this beer has a small tan smooth semi-fizzy head with poor retention, cloudy body, spotty amounts of lacing, lively, fizzy carbonation, and an orange-brown hue. The Aroma is weak coffee, lightly bitter and smells like cold coffee that has been sitting around for a while. The Flavor is the same as the Aroma. The Palate is tingly and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, I do not like a Dopplebock beer having coffee characteristics of any kind. It is out of place for this style and a beer I will pass on if it comes my way again.

Deep amber color that is brown in the center. Real tiny head that left no retention. Good aroma of strong espresso beans. Taste is not what I was hoping after smelling the armoa. Sour coffee and watery caramel malt. The palate is thin in body, smooth but has a strange harshness in the finish. Harsh off flavor bitterness. Coffee brews are some of my all-time favorites. However, I will not revisit this one.

12 oz, enjoyed at cellar temp in a wine glass. Pours a murky plum brown. Nice big head that fades fast Lots of coffee on the nose followed but a disappointing cigarette butt / cigar smoke nose. Taste is pretty disappointing. Tastes like cigarettes, sort of a wheat with a burnt coffee bean finish/
