It's big and full bodied with lots of roasted malts and balanced with heavy hops to put this imperial in a league of its own.
Previously known as Dark Horse Imperial Stout.

Half of a bottle that the owner of a local store got on his last visit to Marshall and very graciously split with me. There were only 7 left, they gave him this one, and the other 6 are going to GABF as part of Dark Horse’s first entry to GABF. Pours increadibly calm and dark oozing from the neck like oil and sits black with no activity. Aroma is all roasted malts, chocolate, and some coffee hiding the alcohol completely from the nose. Granted, this bottle is a couple years old since they haven’t brewed this in awhile so the advertised large wave of hops was not present in the aroma, or in the nose but it still has something going for it in its nice presentation of malts and dark fruits in the flavor. Sweet chocolate and roasted malt mixing with some raisin and a hint of some vanilla round out a beer that seems to have stood up pretty well. Other than the fact that there are no hop flavors or aroma I would say that the age has not added any off flavors. I understand that they are going to begin brewing this again this fall so I very much look forward to having this fresh.

pitch black colour, half inch dense brown head; aroma of milk chocolate (being more spohisticated, chocolate mousse, chocolate ice cream...and chocolate itself), soy sauce, dried plum notes and liqueur; tase of chocolate, soy sauce, glutamate and herbal liqueur notes; good...very good...

Medium aroma of malts, caramel, chocolate, molasses, mocha, roasted malts and coffee.

Opaque black beer with a slight dark brown head.

Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, chocolate, molasses and mocha; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts and coffee.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. The aroma could have been a lot stronger, the appearance is amazing, though the head could have been less diminishing, and the palate is superbly thick and smooth. Lastly, the flavour is amazing with a sweet start and an extremely roasted flavour at the end; balancing it completely.

Bottle at home. Pitch black colour, good brown head. Nose is boozy, roasted malts, and strong chocholate, like a rumosdio. Taste is also chocolaty light booze rhum. smooth mouthfeel. delicious.

On tap at RCBW 2016. Dark browne, almost black colour. Medium beige head. Milk chocolate, toffee, hints of vanilla, hints of some nuts, spices in the aroma. Spicy, bit tart, hints of chocolate at first. Slight sweetness, milk chocolate in the middle. Cocoa and spices in the end. Spiceness in the aftertaste.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. The pour is jet black but with only a short-lasting tan head. Fades so fast. The aroma is both mellow and subtle and alive with dark sweet malts, crackers, raisins, molasses, and a low to no hop profile. Also no booze for 12% ABV. Just extraordinary. The body falls into the medium to full range. The taste tends to be very sweet, roasted, and dark all around. Like the aroma - there is no alcohol picked up. Very well integrated. My head felt it later. This is the kind of Imperial Stout I could drink more frequently.

Many thanks to Justin for this great extra!

0,33l bottle at home from trade with Zakoon, big thanks. grey label that says 11% ABV. black color, small dark coffee-colored head. smells roasty, light charcoal, some wood, some coffee, earthy, light glueish / light alcohol, light sherry notes. overall great smell. full body, light carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of sherry, light alcohol, some roast, ash, coffee, bitter chocolate, lightly glueish, earthy / almost smoky. finishes lightly roasted with coffee, earthy notes and light alcohol. lovely beer, just a tad alcoholic overall. carbonation actually gets a lot more bubbly towards the bottom of the bottle.
