COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It's big and full bodied with lots of roasted malts and balanced with heavy hops to put this imperial in a league of its own.
Previously known as Dark Horse Imperial Stout.

Formed about a 1/4" dark brown head on top of an inky black, motor oil body. Lacing was in thin, sticky sheets. Nose is heavy on coffee and chocolate, with bold roast malts, caramel, and smoky notes. Taste is bold and forward, but not over the top. Bold roast and burnt malt flavors, accented with a light dark fruit body, and tons of chocolate and coffee. Body is thick and inky, lingering chocolate and coffee finish. Overall it’s damn delicious stuff, certainly worthy of all the hype. I slow sipped this one for over an hour and enjoyed every minute of it.

Draft at Local Option. Pours pitch black with beautiful thick mocha colored head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malts and dark fruits. Taste is slightly bitter with notes of roasted malts, espresso and chocolate. There’s a nice baalnce between the hoppier notes and the roasted malts. Smooth finish. Really, really nice.

Poured from bottle. Opaque, near black with a tiny mocha head and lacing that starts that initially coats the sides of the glass, but does not linger. Aroma of cocoa, roasted coffee, roasted malt and mild cherries. Taste of sweet roasted malt, cocoa, roasted coffee, charred oak and cherry. Medium/full body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle via UD in drop off trade. Ser, you da man! Black and biting at start. black patent roasted mostly. Body grows as it warms and all the nasty biting bits go away. No lacing. Head is splotch and filmy. Medium tan lily pads of carbonation. Slick and hardly a bit of alcohol is noticeable as it is consumed. My back feels great!..Tasty with Ramen noodles.

[5/5/13] Draught at Mikkeler & Friends in Copenhagen. Black with a brown head. Aroma of lots of dark chocolate, roastiness, liqueur-like notes and a bit of alcohol. Sweet flavor with dark chocolate, a bit of smokiness and a slightly bitter roasty finish. Full-bodied. Great.

Had a 2013 and a 2012 side by side. Both versions smelled very roasty. The older version did not have as much of a boozy smell. Noticeable taste difference between the two, more so as it warmed. The older version is much smoother, although both versions are very drinkable for 12%. I prefer the older, smoother version because the malty dark flavors come through much more.

2013 bottle. 5/6/13. Pours deep brown-black with a thin brown head. Aroma is vanilla, caramel, dark fruits, roast malts, wood, chocolate, hint of bubblegum. Taste is big and complex; alcohol, chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, floral, lots of bitter hops, molasses; finish is long, bitter, chocolate, coffee. Some nice lacing. Medium-low carbonation; appropriate. Mouth feel is thick, creamy, full-bodied. The alcohol, while still very apparent, is well-hidden. Doesn’t taste like 11%. It’s a huge, full-flavored, memorable experience. Easily the most aggressive of the 5 stouts. Certainly the one to write home about.
