4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rating 1089. Bottle picked up from Sunsinger in Champaign, Illinois. Completely opaque with a difficult to arouse milk chocolatey head that is short lasting. Nose of alcohol and sweetness. Taste malty, roasted with a good kick of alchol. Not so sure about the hops, the sweetness comes from either malts or hops, not too sure. Overall, very pleasant. Going to be a good one to have in the winter.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Recent batch, reviewed 07FEB12
Pours a dark, near black stout with opacity throughout. A finger of light mocha foam falls to nada except a ring of the same. (3)
Figs, licorice, roasted malts, nougat and a hint of mint. Some notes of coffee and a little cocoa. Thereís also a hint of diacytal on the nose. (3)
Roasted, sweet, some raisin, prune and smoke. Thereís a weird hot dog flavor on this beer I didnít previously note. I can only relate this to poor fermentation technique as Iíve only ever tasted this in poorly conducted homebrews otherwise. Luckliy, the overall flavor isnít too impacted by this. (3.5)
Medium on full bodied with a moderate carb and semi dry mouthfeel . Middle of the road. (3)
Man, this beer really was much better the time I had it before, and IIRC, that beer had a year on it. I believe this one is fresh. Too bad, if that is the beer they want to call "ready" then I will grade accordingly, not that great, pretty average. (3)
Thanks to UMNBeerhunter for this extra, cheers joe!
A: pours an exceptionally dark black stout. So nice. No head formation, and in fact difficult for me to even agitate a head here. When it does show, itís transient and dark brown. No laces. Looks sticky.
S: Graham, licorice, anise, cocoa, malts. Thick, appreciate this nose a ton. Dark, long roasted figs. Brown sugar.
T: Dark, roasted oats, raisins, charcoal laden cocoa. Molasses, plum, figs still in here. Outstanding.
M: thick, heavy with low-medium carbonation. Sticky and coats my mouth. Resonant.
D: Excellent beer here folks. I think the beer is superb.

Bottle at Christian Firtal. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of licorice, dark chocolate, soy sauce and ink. Sweet roast malty flavour with oak and bourbon notes, and a hint of alcohol. Excellent.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz bottle.
Black! with a thick mocca head.
Nose is strong and sweet. Coffee, marshmallows, vanilla and fruit.
Palate is a little oily, full body, medium carbonation, with a faint but lasting slightly bitter finish with ABV warmth.
Taste, like the aroma, is a little sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. Burnt malts, Licorice, a little hop, chocolate, peat and berries.
Big flavor, very well balanced. I like it very much.

Bottle at FoCo Stout Tasting 2013, courtesy of Ian. Thanks man! Pour is deep brown, almost black with a small brown head and decent lacing. Big dark chocolate, cocoa, dark fruity, licorice, a hint of smoke, caramel, earthy, and cherries in the aroma. Taste is toffee, earthy, bready, cocoa, dark cocoa, espresso, raisins, and figs with a light bitter finish. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Nice stuff.

64 oz growler from Barley Hopsters in Delaware, OH for $20 plus $5 growler. Opened tonight, 3 days from purchase. Totally opaque black; pours a one-finger, frothy one-finger medium-dark brown head can only be evoked from vigorous pouring and very rapidly dissipates into a medium ring. Aroma largely dark malt and chocolate; some caramel, and (happily) light roast and coffee. Flavor adds salt and licorice. You get a -sense- that this has alcohol from the body and flavor, but thereís really no heat or warmth from it at all. Certainly one of the best-disguised 12% brews Iíve had. Body is heavy, full, smooth, silky. This isnít a particularly "exciting" beer, but itís well above average and very good. I need -something- to stand out about this, and it just doesnít; itís more a mish-mash of a lot of different stout characteristics. If they aged this in bourbon barrels we might have something amazing here.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: insanely dark & thick pour with a head that slowly rises, continuing long after Iím finished pouring; dark-tan with fine bubbles & lovely retention. Aroma is super deep, roasted coffee, charred espresso, bitter cocoa beans, a very light creamy sweetness, dark & bittersweet fudge, & a warming back-end. Taste contains light licorice, bitter coffee beans, charcoal, burnt & roasted malts, light hop character of leaves, ash, & herbs, mild chocolate... So robust & flavorful. Finish of char, roast, burnt coffee, bitter cocoa, warm booziness, & mild nuts. A truly badass stout.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Pours dark in color with a beige head. Sweetish mocha chocolate, more roasted notes, some burnt wood even in aroma. Nice. Bitter, dark chocolate in tast, some espresso and burnt fudge mixed with salty licorice in taste. Good combination here. Nice soft mouthfeel too. Quite longlasting roasted coffee and chocolatey aftertaste.
