Aroma is lightly smokey and of dark fruits. Taste is roasty, and very sweet, malty with slight note of smoke, some chocolate / coffee and candy sugar to make it a great Imperial Stout.

Sep 5, 2008 12 oz. bottle from my boy in Paw Paw, MI who found it in a small liquor store off of the old Red Arrow highway (I’ll add it when I visit again)- many thanks Marcus for completing my horizontal and for the 3am phone calls... served in a trappist glass- poured blacker than a long day of hunting with nothing to show for it in a blizzard and it’s 10 below, low carbonation, thick two finger head formed, had some lacing, that was almost solid enough to support a quarter (WOW!). Aroma of dark coffee, darkened malt, and dark thoughts. Hits the mouth with a wide body, malt comes in cleanly but an almost overpowering sensation of black coffee from the seventh layer of hell comes in, smacks you around, and makes you answer to bitch right in the middle with notes of cream to tease you in the background as you lay whithering from what you just experienced as you beg for everything to be normal again. Finish refuses to go away, leaving you as you only option to slowly go insane from what you have just experienced as your conscience is unable to render what you have just partaked. Um... yeah... DH rocks!!! Always has, always will!!!

Aug 22, 2008 Bottle from Sean. I got word that Ryan was sending me one of these so I decided go to on and pop mine. Thank god I got a teaspoon of this beer so that I can get an accurate Sean-like sample. Dark colored pour (into the spoon), with a nice tan head. Smell is roasted, full of chocolate, some coffee smells too, no alcohol at all. Taste is sweet and thick, very full bodied - rich and creamy. My spoonful went away very fast, but what I could taste (for my accurate sample) left me with a beer that is very good, and deserving of its high rating. Sort of reminded me of a weaker expedition. Really good, thanks for this one!

Aug 20, 2008 Thanks to Rogueone for sharing a bottle, part of a Too-Tres-Fore-Plead The Fifth horizontal tasting. The beer pours nearly black with reddish highlights around the edges. Medium thick brown head that diminishes steadily. Sticky patches of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and dark fruits, plus some chocolate. Rich body with flavors of roasted malt, mocha and hops. Dark fruity flavors at times here as well. 12% alcohol is never noticeable. The finish is roasty with a lingering coffee and chocolate aftertaste. Very good overall.

Aug 14, 2008 Trade with Silphium. Deep black pour, minimal brown head. Sweet smoky coffee aroma. - almost like the aroma of the Dog House grill in Fresno. First impression is the palate - coating and creamy, per the good ones. There is some tartness here, suprisingly. Upfront is good, but tough to describe. Maybe rum cake, not sure. Chocolate aftertaste. 12%? not pronoinced enough. Thank you Silphium, can I get a 6 pack?

Aug 7, 2008 Courtesy of tpd975 (again, you the man). Pours black with mocha to brown head. Impressive looking brew. The aroma is dark and roasty moving toward burnt malt, coffee and chocolate. I do get some heat with a bigger draw. The taste starts with a creamy almost velvety feel bringing burnt malts to coffee as well as rich malt roastiness. A full yummy dark chocolate goodness. Into the finish the coffee and burnt malts hold on into the after taste with lingering notes of rich chocolate. Very tasty.
