COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It's big and full bodied with lots of roasted malts and balanced with heavy hops to put this imperial in a league of its own.
Previously known as Dark Horse Imperial Stout.

Aroma is reminiscent of Surly Darkness, a lot of sweet malt over something of a surprisngly robust hop presence. Caramel, raisin, vanilla, and the aformentioned hop sweetness are key. Apperance is great, black, minimal head, would rank a bit higher with a bit more frothy goodness. Taste is heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter, and if it is possible to taste thick, this is it. Palate is appropriately thick and near flat, just where I want an impy stout. Full body, thick feel, soft carbonation, long finish. Yes this is my first review using the assistance, so bear with me. Overall a good beer, though a bit on the sweet end of my taste for imperial stouts.

Bottle. Dark brown/almost black in colour, tan head. In aroma lots of chocolate, dreid fruits, molasses and some roastiness. In taste medium sweet, chocolate, low roastiness. Full bodied, intensive, oily, smooth and silky, low carbonation. Alcohol present, but on minimal level, very gentle. Great beer.

Blind RIS experiment [Sample 8/20, 4/13/2015] Poured by Summer. Dark brown, thick, near black pour. Minimal ring of tan head, splotchy irregular lacing. Aroma: this smells great. Loads of chocolate, chewy dark fruit, molasses, licorice (licorice? yeah, I guess). Metal lurking in the background. Light roast. Mild oxidation. Taste is on the sweet side, with just enough roast to provide balance. Chewy chocolate molasses sweetness. Full body, silky texture, average carbonation. Lovely lasting taste. This is probably the best of the bunch so far, and Iím glad that after the first 5 things are starting to come back to beers I actually enjoy drinking.

Would pay: $4/bottle no problem; $6 on occasion.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, cocoa, coffee, licorice and alcohol. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long warm, licorice, coffee and chocolate finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Not a shock but the bourbon barrel version is way better. This is still pretty good though.

Quite smooth on the nose. Coffee, hint of some berries like black berries...? Blueberry? Taste is harsh in a food way. Warmth from alcohol. Bitterness and coffee but still some sweetness in the back. Still some black berry and blueberry.

On tap at Cappyís, arrived in a snifter. Appearance: Arrived your typical imperial stout solid black, capped with a thick head of almost dark brown foam that lingered for an impressively long time. Lacing was insane. Smell: Dark stone fruits and chocolate leap out of the glass to smack you across the nostrils and demand your full attention. Beneath them, thereís blackened grains and lightly roasted coffee, but itís the fruit and chocolate that demand attention here. Taste: Did I mention that the fruit and chocolate are attention hogs? Because theyíre front and center in the taste as well, from first sip all the way through the finish. Plums, dark berries, and a mix of sweetened and super-dark chocolate dominate the flavor profile. Beneath them, swirls of lightly roasted coffee, cream, and scorched malt can be found. Mouthfeel: Creamy and full, yet with an oddly watery finish. Overall: This is a tasty stout. Iím not sure quite how the chocolate and fruit notes dominate every other aspect, but I am not complaining.

355ml bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours black with a frothy dark brown head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, coconut, alcohol and vanilla. Flavour is sweet and slightly bitter. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation. Finish is bitter chocolate and a little boozy.

APPEARANCE - super black, with creamy dark brown head. NOSE - smells like almost nothing. Very surprised. FLAVOR - excellent finish, the start is a bit lite considering itís color. NOTES - surprisingly light on the tongue considering how it presents when you pour it. Or maybe I just canít remember how good it is.
