jstraw (471), Oak Park, Illinois, USA Apr 9, 2008 In bottle at Jerry’s. Red-amber with modest white head / Nose of fresh raspberries / Light body, a little thin in the middle, with faint finish / Very pleasant, fresh, and not overbearing flavors of fresh raspberries / Pleasant, well-balanced, but ultimately a simple brew. A summer quaffer.
jeremyd365 (105), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Oct 2, 2008 This fella poured a darkly and thickly into the glass and was just raspberries all over from start to finish. The berries were definitely apparent from the smell alone and then upon drinking, it finished with a crisp raspberry bite. I’m not much into the fruity ales, but I would recommend this one to those who are. All in all was well done. AllAboutStout (527), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Sep 15, 2008 Pours a very light golden color. Not a whole lot of head on the pour. Smell is raspberry of course with some underlying malt as well. There’s a good amount of raspberry in the flavor, but it’s not overdone. I love Dark Horse Brewing, but this is rather uneventful and thin. I’ll stick with their dark beers and IPA’s. jameswolfe (104), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 13, 2008 Not bad, just not that interesting. The beer seems flat for a pale ale. Maybe some more hops would spice it up a bit. I like it better than other raspberry ales that I have had though. hogan873 (200), Joliet, Illinois, USA Sep 6, 2008 Cloudy light orange body with a small white head. Aroma is fairly sweet with berries, honey, and malt. Medium mouthfeel with some heavier carbonation at the back. Nice flavor with the sweetness of berries and malt up front leading to a tart finish. Not much of an aftertaste. Good fruit beer. pope_phred (122), Plainfield, Illinois, USA Aug 31, 2008 Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. Pour produced a cloudy, golden orange body topped by a small head of foam, which diminished fully and quickly. Some aroma of raspberry, though I was expecting more, also, there was hint of grain in the aroma. Tart, with a moderate amount of bitterness thrown in, combined with a moderate amount of carbonation and a medium body. The leafiness of the raspberries come through in this ale. True, I can get the taste of raspberries on the palate, but it is followed by a dry, bitter flavor that tastes like I received the batch that used the plant and not the berry. My expectation were not met with this ale. I will now have to brush my teeth to get this unpleasant bitterness out of my mouth. Bleargh!
