TearsforBeers (170), Ohio, USA Feb 1, 2009 Notes from Indy Winterfest.
Pours black. Aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, dark malts. Flavors of malt, grain, chocolate and coffee. Normal mouthfeel. Overall a pretty good one. BVery (446), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA Feb 1, 2009 TAP: at Happy Gnome (St. Paul, MN) on 1.31.09. Pours a dark black with a reddish/tan head. Burnt chocolate nose, flavors of roasted malt, mild chocolate. Good porter. flatmatt (221), Northville, Michigan, USA Jan 28, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours opaque black with a brown head. Nice creamy aroma with chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. Solid flavor, with notes of chocolate, coffee, and a bit of creaminess, but not comparable to the aroma. Perhaps a little thinner than the aroma led me to expect, but this is a solid porter. nuplastikk (1159), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jan 21, 2009 Updated: Feb 28, 200912oz bottle. Deep opaque black color with a minimal rusty orange head. Mild, sweet dark chocolate malt aroma. Medium bodied and very smooth, this is a great Black Ale. Full of Chocolate and Roasted Malt flavors, maybe a touch of coffee. Minimal hops as per style. Hides the alcohol tremendously well, seems like it could be 5%. Recommended, especially if you are into the dark side of beers. Taverner (825), San Ramon, California, USA Jan 17, 2009 12 oz bottle - thanks MatSciGuy! Pours black with tannish brown head that recedes quickly. Flavor is full on roasty, rich malty notes. If I didn’t know any better, I’d be thinking "Dry Stout." Nice synergy between the hops and the carbon from the roasting. thejoeshow (232), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Jan 11, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a thick black color with a nice sized brown head that has decent retention and nice lacing. Aroma is heavy, heavy burnt chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Very rich. Flavor is dominated by heavy roasted chocolate malts and a touch of coffee. Very roasty! AWESOME! This beer is wonderful and very easy to drink, especially for how big and rich it is. Tasty tasty. This is NOT for those "I don’t like dark beer" people. nefarious (202), Clarkston, Michigan, USA Jan 11, 2009 Black pour into a shaker. Nice hear and good aroma. This is all about the malts. and is extremely quaffable. mmmmmmmmmmm oldno7 (135), Spokane, Washington, USA Jan 9, 2009 Pours black with a roasty brown head. At first aroma is faint with hints of vanilla, cocoa and chocolate. The flavor was very smooth and had subtle fllavors of malts, semi sweet chocolate, dark fruit and coffee.
