FlssmrBrewAlum (1079), Lisle, Illinois, USA Sep 20, 2008 20 oz draft on tap at The Galway Tribes (Frankfort, IL). Pours a deep dark black, letting no light in, with a frothy brown head that almost looks like ground up chocolate it is so dark. Aromas are roasted malts, cocoa, and burnt coffee. Taste is similar, borderline med-heavy on the palate, this beer didn’t dissappoint. Roasted malts mixed with touches of chocolate and coffee and balanced with a nice bittering finish with a touch of burnt (coffee? malt?) on the end. That was the only dissappointment of this brew and quickly left my mind once I kept drinking it. Even ordered a second. Cheers! Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Sep 15, 2008 Bottle courtesy of StFun. Pours an opaque black with a 2 finger brown head and spotty lacing. Nose is powdered cocoa, roasted malts, smoked barley and a touch of coffee. Taste is charred dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans and chalky cocoa with some bittering hops in the finish. Full creamy mouth feel. I didn’t know what to expect and this one surprised me. Very good. Thanks Josh! dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA Sep 13, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep inky black with a small light brown head that fades. Crisp aroma of bitter toasted malt. Taste is bitter and clean, of burnt toasted malt, with hints of coffee and chocolate. Lingering toasted, burnt flavors. Very refreshing and tasty. bretupdegraff (172), Fishers, Indiana, USA Sep 10, 2008 I really like this brew. It fits my style and taste. Malt, Chocolate, Coffee and carbonation (not too heavy) Dark Fruit but done the way I like it. Very enjoyable - smooth - kinda milky/creamy but with enough hops and flavor to give it some attitue. Gurst (338), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Sep 7, 2008 Dark, dark black/brown color, paper thin tan head. Strong coffee aroma matches the strong coffee taste. First sip is all coffee, but more chocolate and toasted poppy seed bagel come in as the beer warms. A little smoked jerky and oatmeal as it gets another degree warmer. Finish is slightly hoppy, like flower petals. Delicious flower petals. Thinish body though, only complaint. timsilvia32 (445), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Sep 7, 2008 Updated: Sep 9, 2008Near black pour, healthy brown head, slight ruby around the edge. Very roasty aroma. Tastes roasted malt, burnt malt, oat, bakers chocolate, some smokiness. A pleasant amount of carbonation. Just a slight amount of hop and coffee bitterness in the finish. Almost as much coffee in this to me as the Beer Geek Breakfast stout. Very good and to the point of what a good porter should be. oakbluff (298), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Sep 6, 2008 Pours a solid ebony colour with slight tan head and reasonable lacing. Nose- chocolate milk powder and roasted nuts. Taste- dark fruits, chocolate, touch of lactic sourness and a little smokiness. Medium bodied with a vigorous carbonation. Finishes dry. mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Sep 6, 2008 black pour with a thin espresso head. sweet chocolate and hint of roasted malts. awesome thickness with a very full dark chocolate flavor with a smooth roasted malt finish. very impressive brew.
