BeerZack (116), Austin, Texas, USA Apr 28, 2008 Black, with khaki and brown 1-2 finger head that settles to a nice foam covering.
Roasted coffee, some herbal/vegetal notes; some sweetness, some vanilla, bit of sarsparilla?
Very coffee-like. Dark chocolate, espresso, with an herbal hop edge. Almost tastes more like coffee than beer.
Low to moderate carbonation, pretty substantial, full, rich mouthfeel. Pretty drinkable, if you’re a coffee-lover. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Apr 27, 2008 Pours a motor oil black body with a smallish beige head. Aroma is burnt wood, coffee and light malt. Flavor is smoky wood, big time coffee and some malty sweetness. Medium bodied, smooth texture. Long sticky bitter finish. Syd (888), Waconia, Minnesota, USA Apr 25, 2008 Bottle pours out black with nougat colored head that laces nicely. The aroma is roasted, chocolate, nutty, prune, and slightly smoked. The flavor is sweet, milk chocolate, slightly lactic, coffee, vanilla, and some hops to keep it honest. The palate is rich and lively enough to make it a decent beer experience. I’ve had a lot of good Porters lately, but this one seems pretty well structured. I like it. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Apr 24, 2008 sampled from bottle: pours a dark opaque black colour with a small tan head. Aroma is enticing full of dark fruits- blackberries, black cherries and dark chocolate. Creamy, lightly carbonated but stern firm mouthfeel. Taste is pleasent, initially hint of sweetness which quickly mellows out into a thick nutty- syrupy taste. Davinci (295), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 20, 2008 Nice dark black pour with thinnish tan head. Roasty coffe, mild tart red fruit, and mild smoke in the nose. Flavor is roasty coffe and tart berries. Ends roasty with some woody notes.
Medium body with light carbonation. Very tasty stuff. georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA Apr 17, 2008 Growler from brewery. Pours black with a thin chocolatey head (thinness may be due to air travel). The aroma was full of chocolate and roasted malts. It was a thick hearty beer with a very roasted flavor. pepsican (883), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Apr 10, 2008 Pitch black pour with a small brown head floating at the top. A roasty malt aroma with some candy sugar and caramel. Flavor is caramel, smoke, chocolate, raisin, nuts, a touch of wood. Finishes pretty dry, nice creamy mouthfeel. A very good porter. ebrowner88 (113), Rice, Minnesota, USA Apr 8, 2008 What a pleasant surprise. Black, not much head or lace. Very fine brussells. Raising taste followedby almost burnt caramel with a sweet malty wide finish. Very well crafted. Excellent for style. For 1.89 a bottle, it’s sofa king great.
