xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Apr 7, 2008 Bottle from West Lakeview, Chicago. Opaque black with medium burnt tan head. Aroma is roast, smoke and dry malt. Smoky roasted malt with slight vanilla, herbalness, coffee, nice. Medium body with slight carbonation. Nice, easy drinking porter, very refreshing in its own sort of way. troyc (1173), Lubbock, Texas, USA Apr 7, 2008 (Bottle) Pours ink black, with a good sized brown head. Aroma of dark roasted malts and dry cocoa. Taste includes a very good mix of dark chocolate, vanilla, smoked caramel malts, and coffee. Well balanced. Carbonation was on the low end, and the palate was pretty average. This was a very good beer, but with a little more body it could have been even better. It reminded me of some of the schwarzbier I’ve enjoyed in Germany. mkobes (2103), paramus, New Jersey, USA Apr 5, 2008 On cask at Chelsea Cask Fest. Deep black in color with no head. Lots of roasty malts in the aroma. Caramel nutty notes. Malty roasty chocolatety flavor. Smooth tasting. Finish is roasty. Full bodied. Very nice beer. Very drinkable. jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA Apr 2, 2008 12 oz bottle. A deep dark well of roasted oats and dark chocolate in the nose and flavor. Long, dry, slightly bitter finish with notes of charred wood and a hefty dash of COFFEE. Better than expected...overall, a nice solid beer... good to sip or to slam. MMMM...nice drpimento (785), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Mar 31, 2008 Wow! Killer! Great rocky, textured, foamy tan head with lots of lace. Opaque black color. Deep roasty malty aroma with the traditional aromas associated with that. Just a little dark fruit in the tast. Great body and smooth long finish. Close to being a session beer but not quite. A masterwork!. Having this draft at Bodega Brew Pub downtown La Crosse, Wisconsin. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Mar 30, 2008 Cask at Manhattan Cask Festival. Very dark black beer with loads of roasted malt aroma. Roasted coffee over a sweet black licorice, molasses, and treacle. Lightly salty maltiness. Lingering charry and tarry roasted character. It’s not a bad beer, but it’s got too much roastiness for my tastes. jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA Mar 29, 2008 holy piles of coffee batman!!! not what i expected at all. very smooth, creamy, like an alcoholic double shot in the dark. Goblincat (356), Westland, Michigan, USA Mar 27, 2008 Pours blacker than black, with a light brown head. Aromas of chocolate with some roasted coffee. The taste is a very smooth, blending flavors equaling the smells. Nicely done, Dark Horse.
