aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Feb 10, 2008 The color was dark brown/black. The head was creamy, off-white, and thin. The aroma was molasses, coffee, chocolate, and roast. The flavor was roasty, coffee, sweet malt, molasses, hops, and chocolate. The palate was thick-bodied. The finish was roasty wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Feb 10, 2008 Bonus beer from Secret Santa in 7/26/07. Been sitting in my fridge all of this time. I think I should have drank it sooner. Pours thickish black with no head. Liquid does have some carbonation. Aroma is bland, possibly a small hint of cardboard. Very ashy cigarette butt flavor. Very dry. Somewhat acidic. The burnt flavor lingers on the back of your tongue. Yuck. GMCC2181 (846), Bear, Delaware, USA Feb 9, 2008 Bottle, poured black into a snifter, no head. Smelled like coffee. Taste is coffee and a bunch of roasted malt. The chocolate gave it a nice sweetness. Nice texture, went down smoothly. Good beer! Thanks st fun! footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Feb 9, 2008 Jesus, I hate entering backlogged ratings. Shouldn’t I be cleaning the litterbox?? We know what it looks like already so... I like a porter that looks and tastes like a porter. How do they do this? The flavor is so heavily laden with chocolate and coffee. It is like having coffee with a piece of flourless chocolate cake. mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Feb 9, 2008 12 oz. bottle courtesy of Acknud. Pours an opaque black with dark brown edges. 1/2" brown head with little lacing. Nose is dark roasted malts. Tastes of roasted malt, black coffee and dark chocolate. I knocked off a couple points for an odd chalk like flavor in the background. All in all a good brew. Thanks Bill !! Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Feb 8, 2008 Bottle purchased at Crown Liquors #15, in Fishers, IN. Appropriately named, this beer pours jet black with a small, creamy, dark tan head that laces nicely. Before the head settles, I got a rather unpleasant wet dog aroma wafting up from the glass. Bleh. After it settles, however, the nose is quite nice: roasted malt, chocolate, and sweet, nutty coffee creamer. (Were it not for the initial Fido aroma, this would have gotten a "9" from me.) The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and super-slick (almost as though it were nitrogenated) with a bitter, roasted finish. Roasted dark malt, light cream, char/ash, and a bitter hop hit all combine into a big roasty flavor profile. The aftertaste is a lingering espresso/hop blend. Take a porter, amp up the roast and the bitterness and you have this beer. It’s anything but boring, and I would definitely buy it again. Very nice. IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Feb 4, 2008 Black pour with barely no head. Beer was medium to full bodied with a coffee/roast flavor and maybe a fewfruity esters. Taste overall was real good. I’d buy this one again. toddkrem (78), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Feb 4, 2008 Pours pitch black with some lace. Has a sweet taste of dark chocolate. Goes down easy for a dark beer. Tastes like a stout with hints of dark coffee.
