hapjydeuce (763), Del Mar, California, USA Jan 16, 2008 Bottled. Pours black with maroon head and lacing, and quickly disappearing head. Aroma consists of roasted malts, lots of smoke, wood and licorice. Pleasant smoky flavor with some chocolate, molasses and coffee. I tasted smoke more so than other aspects of the flavor. Finishes thin and dryly carbonated. Pretty good, not outstanding. Acknud (770), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Jan 13, 2008 Wow. What a surprise. Very dark pour. Minimal amber head. Aroma and tastes of dark roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and all the other good dark things! I’m glad I have a 6 pack! Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 12, 2008 Big thanks to pantanap...aka Santa...for this great beer. Wonderfully dark pour with small tan head with decent lacing. Nose of very roasty malts and coffee mixed with coffee and dark chocolate. Medium bodied with upfront roast, light alcohol and bitter roasted coffee and dark bready notes. Long, lingering finish that I enjoy. Thanks Santanap! Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jan 9, 2008 I’d been putting this one off for some time because I was somehow under the impression that it was just some plain old boring stout. Imagine my surprise when it ended up being rather enjoyable. Almost black in color with a little bit of tan head. Lots of roasty malt action gives it a coffee scent. Very rich and a good thick mouthfeel. Lots of coffee and a hint of bitter dark chocolate. A good thick beer. Not quite porter, not quite stout, not quite impy. Just good. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Jan 7, 2008 Pours blackish with a thin 1/4" light brown head that fades and hangs around the edges of the brew. I made the mistake of letting the light brown sediment from the bottle pour into my glass, it kind of turned me off. Nice nose, smells of toasty malts and a little bit of coffee. Tastes not too strong, just right. I get a lot of malt on the tip of my tongue and then dark roasty coffee flavors towards the back of my tongue and throat. Palate is very nice for a impi porter. Not too thick at all, nice and smooth with great carbonation. Pretty good brew.
Naven (864), Poway, California, USA Jan 3, 2008 12 oz bottle. Received this from someone in a trade. Thanks. I enjoyed this one. Dark dark dark. Flavor was chocolate and coffee. Nice, smooth beer. All I could think when i was drinking it was how it tasted like Speedway light. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Dec 31, 2007 Picked up single 12-oz bottle at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a semi-clear dark brown brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that leaves behind some spotty lacing and a thin white ring. Aroma of toasted dark malt, some dark chocolate, and a hint of smoke. Taste is medium to full bodied, light carbonation with flavors of dark roasted malt, some chocolate, and a little coffee. Finish is semi-sweet, smooth creamy with a smoked dark malt flavor. TheBeerOrg (1563), Kentucky, USA Dec 28, 2007 Pours pitch black, thicky with a quickly receding mocha head. Aroma of sweet vinous roast, dark chocolate, and alcohol. Taste is lightly roasty, sweet chocolate and dark malts. Notes of coffee, earthy spicy malt. Mouthfeel is full bodied with smooth carbonation. Dark Horse does a good job with the darker beers.
