Jan 6, 2006 12 oz bottle, via MAP. Dark black pour with a small short lived chocolate brown head. Chocolate and roasted malt aroma, hints of coffee. Flavor is a mix of bakers chocolate and coffee nicely balanced with hop bitterness. Finish is coffee as well, with alcoholic warmth. Full bodied and chewy with an oily texture and fine bottle conditioned carbonation. Pretty robust for a porter, bordering on Imperial Stout territory. Alot of depth to the flavor. Second beer from Dark Horse, and second winner.

Dec 31, 2005 Bottle from Styles. The beer pours to a very black body with a thin dark brown head. The aroma is very strong dark bitter chocolate and roasty malts. Vanilla and coffee. The flavor is a very drying charcoal and chocolate. Reminds me of Brooklyn BCS. I like this a lot. The palate is drying and medium full bodied.

Dec 31, 2005 Black pour thick creamy brown head nice lacing. Aroma strongly of roasted malts, alcohol, coffee, & a light bitter chocolate note. Palate is well coated a touch sticky lightly creamy. Flavor is almost a stout. Lots of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate touches of alcohol and vanilla even a little salty. Pretty darn good.

Dec 29, 2005 Thick syrupy texture with a strong coffee nose. Roasted malt flavors are smooth and silky with a hint of vanilla. The finish is roasty and slightly bitter with a hint of spice.

Dec 29, 2005 Rich coffee and roasted chocolate aroma, mingled with a hint of wood and vanilla sugar. Pours a oil dark black, with a coffee and cream head. Mellowed coffee flavor and a hint of mole with pumpkinseeds and fresh chocolate. Oily, sweet and slick. Has a wonderful aromatic vanilla and cream quality, over a more reserved roastedness. Finish is a little salty and oaty, with plenty of appropriate dryness.

Dec 20, 2005 Thanks to Secret Santa for this beer. Poured black with a creamy brown head. Aroma of bitter roasted coffee and chocolate-covered cherries. Taste is mildly sweet with roasted bittersweet choclate dominating and a touch of fruitiness topped off with some citrus and pine hops, leading to a dry bitter finsih. Roasty, bitter, and good.

Dec 20, 2005 Thanks Santa! Another plesant surprise from Dark Horse. Pours black as night with a tan head. Mild aroma of malt and alcohol. Creamy in the mouth. Nice balanced flavor with a smoky finish and coffee aftertaste. Very good!
