badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Nov 27, 2005 jet black appearance with tiny reddish-brown head....aroma of roasted notes (chocolate, coffee, molasses)....flavor is quite the same with a smokiness to it.....a tad bitter of an aftertaste....perfect creamy palate sprinkle (114), Carmel(Indy), Indiana, USA Nov 21, 2005 Good roasty, bitter chocolate and molassas nose. Black as night, thick lace but no head. Rich, dark malt bombard your palate, huge but balanced. I’m not the biggest porter fan but this is one big porter, its nice when you can sip on a beer and wait a minute and the flavor is still with you. This beer could handle some age and thats what I intend to do. MI2CA (1260), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Nov 10, 2005 12oz - Aroma is sweet roasted chocolate malt. Pours a deep black with a brown ring for head and decent lacing. Flavor is intense roasted chocolate malt and thick molasses. Palate is creamy and thick. Very tasty dense beer. Dough77 (771), Aurora, Illinois, USA Nov 2, 2005 Dark black pour with tan head that kind of lingers for awhile. Aroma big on roasted malt, chocolate, as well as coffee and caramel. Flavor lets the hop presence in a bit, but mostly the big roast and chocolate seem to stick to the taste buds. Rock solid entry from Dark Horse. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA Nov 1, 2005 12oz. bottle. Nearly opaque black, thin film of dark tan head. Caramelized sugar, nuts, and tinges of roast coffee in the aroma. Chocolate and roast malt flavors. Coffee and roasty astringency in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium and fairly dry. More roasted character than I would anticipate in a porter. Dextolen (151), Michigan, USA Oct 27, 2005 I thought the name of this beer was deceiving, I was expecting a black lager. (Side note: DH REALLY needs to spend some coin on their label art.) Poured black, with a chocolate, soapy head. Aroma of chocolate, malt and piney hops. Tastes are pretty much the same. Tastes like a stout to me. jah noth (1015), Rochester, New York, USA Oct 20, 2005 Huge aroma aroma of burnt molasses and dried fruit. Very black pour, slightly thin, with an off-white head. Very roasted, burnt ash flavor, some sweetnessof cherries, and a little alcohol. Nice bier. Thanks Brad. beeryum (652), Norcross, Georgia, USA Oct 17, 2005 Bottle. Opaque black pour. Big chocolate and dark fruit aromas and flavors, and some roasted notes and caramelly molasses too. This is, imo, a hybrid porter-stout, and man is it good. Fairly thick for a porter, but still really good.
